TV Renewal/Cancellation Updates
Upfronts: ABC – CBS – The CW – FOX – NBC
It was also recently announced that NBC has cancelled Grimm after its sixth season. A Greek reunion is in the works over at Freeform in the form of a movie! You all know how much I love this show so I am very excited about this news! Rebecca Serle’s YA novel, Famous in Love has been given a series order at Freeform. Recovery Road was canceled over at Freeform. I watched the series premiere and thought the show had potential but its cancellation is not surprising. Hulu renewed The Mindy Project and The Path. I highly recommend watching both. UnReal was renewed by Lifetime for season 3 ahead of season 2’s premiere. TVLand renewed Younger! Syfy has renewed 12 Monkeys for a third season, Wynonna Earp for a second, and Dark Matter for a third!! Peaky Blinders has been renewed for 4th & 5th seasons. USA renewed Mr. Robot to nobody’s surprise. The same can be said for Netflix’s Stranger Things. Gillian Flynn’s novel, Sharp Objects received a series order at HBO. HBO also renewed Ballers. Homeland has been renewed for seasons 7 and 8. Dear White People is coming to Netflix as a TV series. I cannot wait! Netflix also renewed Bloodline, Daredevil, Making A Murderer, and Chelsea. Transparent has been renewed. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has been renewed for 2 more seasons, making it the longest-running live-action comedy series in TV history, tied with The Adventures of Ozzie & Harrie. Archer was also renewed for three more seasons! AMC renewed Fear the Walking Dead which is no surprise at all! TNT renewed Angie Tribeca and Wrecked among others. USA renewed Suits. STARZ renewed Survivor’s Remorse. OWN renewed Queen Sugar ahead of its series premiere. Nat Geo Channel renewed The Story of God with Morgan Freeman. TruTV renewed Impractical Jokers. The Food Network has ordered a show from YouTube Star, Hannah Hart. Go, Team Internet! CBS renewed The Talk. The most diverse talk show on TV, The Real was renewed through 2018 though Tamar Braxton will not be returning as a co-host. Veep, Game of Thrones, & Silicon Valley were all renewed at HBO. On the not so good news side…Showtime announced that season 5 of Episodes will be its last and it cancelled House of Lies. Ian Somerhalder told fans before the network did that Season 8 of The Vampire Diaries will indeed be its last. Showtime ended Penny Dreadful rather abruptly and Comedy Central did the same with The Nightly Show. Lifetime has cancelled Devious Maids. Dr. Drew is out at HLN.
