Upfronts Week is here! For my thoughts on NBC, click here. For Fox (and trailers for all of their new shows), keep reading!
First, I am so excited that Rosewood is coming back for another season. I am enjoying that show a lot more than I thought I would and encourage you to watch if you’ve been meaning to. It’s worth it!
Thoughts On Cancelled Series:
I am really going to miss Grandfathered. That show was so good! I really looked forward to watching it each week. It’s a real bummer viewers let that one slip through the cracks. The Grinder was also pretty great. I am a fan of Rob Lowe’s comedic talent and the whole cast was so great. There were a few episodes that may not have been as engaging as the rest but overall, this show really was a load of fun. These comedies will be greatly missed.
Minority Report and Second Chance both had so much potential to be absolutely amazing and I believe had they been given more time, they’d have reached that potential. Second Chance was getting there. It was getting there and it was good. But, alas. A no go on these, unfortunately. I never got around to watching Bordertown so I’m neutral on this. Also, a reminder that the most recent season of American Idol was its last. A long time coming.
Also Cancelled: Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life (I only found this show mildly amusing so I’m neutral on this as well.)
Thoughts On New Series:
As far as the dramas go… 24:Legacy is without a doubt the most anticipated Fox drama. If you’ve seen 24, you know why. If you haven;t but have seen the trailer for this (below), you’ll quickly see why. So much action! So much drama. Such high stakes! I love it! 2017 can’t come fast enough! A.P.B. looks amazing! I am definitely on board for this drama. The Exorcist is not for me…
Lethal Weapon looks like a lot of fun. That said, I wasn’t born when the first movie came out and don’t remember seeing the first movie more than a few times later in life and I have no recollection of seeing the second or third movies, so I need to make sure that I watch the trilogy before this airs this fall.
Pitch looks great. It’s so good to see a female minority leading an inspiring sports story like this and what a story it is. It shouldn’t be revolutionary but the sad fact is that it is. And I hope this show goes far or at least enhances the discussion of equality.
Star looks terrible. Hard pass on that. The mini series, Shots Fired looks solid but I am not a fan of Sanaa Lathan so I won’t be watching this. Finally, I’ll watch Rocky Horror Picture Show to support the amazing cast but I’m not excited about actually having to sit down and watch this. This didn’t need to be remade.
As for the comedies… If there’s one comedy that I’m genuinely looking forward to, it’s Making History. A superbly funny time travel comedy? Yes, please! This comes from the creators of The Last Man on Earth so I’m pumped. Now, I’ll watch The Mick as much as I can because I love Kaitlin Olson and her comedy. That said, some of the stuff in the trailer is a bit too silly and outrageous to really love it. But it will be entertaining as it’s also from the creators of TLMON so I know that I will definitely laugh in every episode that I do end up watching. Son of Zorn actually looks pretty entertaining as well but I just cannot see myself watching this.

Kicking & Screaming is a new competition series that teams 10 expert survivalists with pampered partners to face the toughest challenges of their lives. From executive producer Matt Kunitz (“Wipeout,” “Fear Factor”), and hosted by Hannah Simone (NEW GIRL), the series drops these unlikely duos into a tropical jungle in Fiji, where they must overcome dangerous animals, raging rivers, hunger and extreme weather. To win the competition, the experts will have to drag their partners, KICKING & SCREAMING, to the finish line.
