The CW 2016-2017 Programming Schedule + My Thoughts

The end of Upfronts Week is here! I’ve talked about NBC, Fox, ABC, and CBS already. Finally, it’s time to talk about The CW!

Firstly, not that there was a question as to if this was going to be renewed but I am so excited that DC’s Legends of Tomorrow was because I love this show so much more than I knew that I would and that’s saying a lot considering I already knew that I was going to really enjoy it!

Also, I’m thrilled that Supergirl is coming to The CW. It was bizarre to me that the show didn’t go to The CW in the first place so this transition looks to be more seamless than others. Let’s just hope The CW airs season one over the summer so that people living under a rock who watch the show don’t jump into the second season thinking it’s the first.

If I like all of the new shows coming to The CW this fall as much as I think I will, I will only not be watching 3 of the network’s shows. That’s bananas!

Thoughts On Cancelled Series:

Containment was delivered as a limited event series anyway so this official cancellation isn’t surprising. The Messengers had potential but didn’t quite reach that potential and not many viewers stayed to see it grow so this isn’t surprising. Though I personally did enjoy the show, flaws and all.

Thoughts On New Series:

As far as the dramas go… Riverdale is an Archie adaptation executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Corinne Brinkerhoff (Jane the Virgin) and Maggie Friedman (Witches of East End) among others. From what I hear, it’s more loosely inspired by than straight up adapting everything so we’ll see. I grew up with Archie and always gravitated towards Archie when at cons as a child so it just feels like home to me. While I wouldn’t dare call myself a regular reader, I can say that this is one comic book adaptation that I am genuinely highly anticipating from a deep place in my heart. There’s no trailer for this yet but boy am I excited for it.

Frequency, adapted from the 2000 movie of the same title looks fantastic. I remember really enjoying the movie though I haven’t seen it in years so I definitely want to give it a watch closer to the premiere of the show so that I can catch the smaller easter eggs but overall, I’d say this looks like a very satisfying adaptation. CBS, take note.

No Tomorrow, an adaptation of the Emmy nominated Brazilian rom-com, comes from Jane the Virgin producer, Ben Silverman and it looks like SO much fun. It’s just a little ball of sunshine. Which is ironic since it’s about a girl who meets a guy 8 months before the apocalypse. This show gives me the warm fuzzies like Jane the Virgin does and Hart of Dixie did. It’s just that kind of sunshiny show. Needless to say, I’m very much looking forward to it. I am all the way in for this!
