Each month, #BuyIndiePress puts the spotlight on indie books from a handful of small presses and the like. All of the details are at the Buy Indie Press page.
Today, I’m so excited to put the spotlight on a number of self published YA & NA authors on my radar! This is only part one! Stay tuned later in the year for part two! Let’s start with one author that I’ve read and loved and then dive into three authors that I’m anticipating reading!
Here we go!
1. Dahlia Adler

I am so glad that I took a chance on this contemporary work because contemporary and me don’t click much. But this. This I was immediately hooked to. The scandalous concept of Last Will and Testament intrigued me and from there, I was all in.
You can read these books out of order, which each follow one girl in a group of college friends, as they all stand on their own but it’s so much more fun to read them in release order. In fact, the first one is my favorite of the three. For my full review of Last Will and Testament, click here.
But what I love about all three stories is that they’re all just as entertaining as they are compelling and equally diverse in regards to race and sexual orientation and did I mention how much I love Dahlia’s writing? Each book is just as sexy and charming and complex as the last and it’s not easy keeping up high expectations once they’ve been set but Dahlia does it here.
What I love about Dahlia Adler’s work is that while they’re all romances, the story is not just about romantic love. It’s about friendship too, which I especially loved seeing in Right of First Refusal. For my full review, click here. In the final book, Out on Good Behavior, what I especially loved was the exploration of sexual identity and taking chances even when you’re afraid. For my full review, click here.
What stands out the most to me is how sincere the writing is, how three dimensional the characters are, and how connected I get to the relationships and colorful journeys of these characters. The concepts are juicy and the delivery doesn’t disappoint. If you’re looking for an awesome college aged romance, three romance stories in one, that you can binge this summer, you’ve found it at Radleigh University.
2. LeighAnn Kopans
Official – Blog – Twitter – Facebook – Pinterest – Tumblr – Instagram
I found out about LeighAnn Kopans and her work through Twitter in 2013 a few months after her debut novel, One released. It’s a Young Adult sci-fi duology with superheroes and frankly, that’s all I needed to know to add this one to my TBR pile. I admit, while I did buy One right away, I still have yet to read it (shame!) but I’m making a point to read One and Two this summer and getting to more of Leigh’s work as well!
One (#1) + Two (#2)

I’m also quite intrigued by her second series, Solving For Ex which is pitched as Clueless meets Mean Girls. I mean, really, that’s enough said, am I right? Excited to get to this!
Solving For Ex (#1) + First World Problems (#2)
Companion Duology, YA/NA Contemporary Romance

College roommates bonding over heartbreak? Yes, please! I’m down to check out this standalone title as well!
The Broken Hearts’ Society of Suite 17C
Standalone, New Adult Contemporary Romance
ISBN: 978-1512154603
Released: May 11, 2015

Finally, LeighAnn’s latest title, You’re It appears to be a contemporary romance as well but based on the synopsis, there looks to be more balance with the main character’s romance life and broken home life which I’m really looking forward to reading. This sounds like a book with very complex relationship dynamics aka my kind of book, so I’m very excited to get to this one! Perhaps it will be the first one I read after One and Two!

3. Natalie Whipple

Relax, I’m A Ninja (#1) + Trust Me, I’m A Ninja (#2)
Duology, Young Adult Urban Fantasy/Adventure/Mystery

Released: June 3, 2014 / August 8, 2014

I don’t think that I’ve ever read a book with ninjas in them so that’s what intrigued me the most about this story when it came on my radar. I’m not quite sure how to categorize its genre because it seems to be jam packed with lots of funs stuff and that actually makes me even more excited to read it! Her series aside, her blog is one of my absolute favorites and all aspiring and established writers (self published or traditionally published) should make it a point to read her blog. It’s such an open and honest account of publishing and I love it.
Sidekick

The story follows a high school football player who always comes in second to his best friend. Based on the synopsis, I feel like this book is basically a love letter to all of the sidekicks out there. To everyone who comes in second place. To the underdogs. To getting to the core of the true meaning of winning. Before this post, this book actually wasn’t on my radar but I’m glad that I decided to look beyond what I was familiar with from this author because this sounds great.
4. Tarryn Fisher
Official – Twitter – Facebook – Instagram
Tarryn Fisher first came on my radar when she released Never Never with author, Colleen Hoover. I absolutely loved that novella trilogy and have vowed to check out more work by Colleen and Tarryn who have published several novels own their own.
In Mud Vein, a reclusive novelist wakes up on her 44rd birthday and realizes she’s been kidnapped. If that isn’t enough to get you to open up to the first page, I don’t know what is! That said, given the concept, I’m not sure how I feel about the cover. Is this supposed to be a Stockholm situation because if so, I’m not down for that. I’m hoping it’s not but I’m trying to figure out how I can get an answer on this without accidentally reading a spoiler in reviews. Anyone read this one? Thoughts?

Memory loss and a race against another to get someone you love to remember you? Count me in. I don’t want to read the synopsis for the next two novels because of spoilers but this trilogy has me really excited.
The Opportunist (#1) + Dirty Red (#2) + Thief (#3)
Love Me With Lies Trilogy, New Adult Contemporary Romance
ISBN: 978-1482359008 / 978-1481948999 / 978-1491208298
Released: November 14, 2011 / December 20, 2012 / July 20, 2013

Marrow follows a girl who lives in a cursed house with her cursed mother. She feels invisible until she makes a friend. But with that friend comes changes…and danger. This sounds like a really creepy novel that I’ll either dive right in or be too much of a punk to read. Only time will tell!
Marrow
New Adult Mystery Thriller, Romance

Released: April 16, 2015

Okay, so honestly this story (girl falls in love with her best friend’s boyfriend) feels like a story we’ve all read and/or seen before and it’s not necessarily a story I’m interested in reading but it’s the journey and the writing that can really make this something that I could still see myself checking out. So after I read the above work, I’ll definitely consider Tarryn’s latest…
