May 2024 Monthly Wrap Up

The month of May was quite chill for me all around. As TV seasons end and summer shows slowly return, we’re in the awkward period where there’s not a ton to watch. Though that was fine with me, as this was my first season consistently watching the WNBA games. As you may recall, in 2010, I blogged about attending my first WNBA game. So my interest in the WNBA is not new. Just not consistent in any way, shape, or form. But my friends needed one more person for their draft and were stressing about that and I reluctantly stepped in but I am so glad that I did! It’s been so much fun and I can’t wait to participate again in the draft next year when I really know my stuff! As for what else I’ve been into? Let’s get into it…

Interview With the Vampire (AMC)

TV

Interview With the Vampire is fan-freaking-tastic. Everything about this show is marvelous. It’s art. It’s drama. This is entertainment. If you’re not watching, please watch season one and catch up to season two that is currently airing. Don’t say I never told you! Season 2 of Reginald the Vampire is underwhelming at this point in time but I see the vision, so it’s only a matter of time before things kick into high gear. Doctor Who has also been disappointing, not because the episodes haven’t been entertaining because they have. But I feel like the Doctor has never been more passive than now. It feels like he’s the companion on his own show. I’m not loving that. I definitely feel some time of way about it. JURASSIC WORLD: CHAOS THEORY was not nearly as thrilling as its predecessor but it is still worth watching! Strangely, very calming. I don’t know what that says about me haha but yeah, those are my TV highlights this month.

Movies

Note: Be sure to follow me on Letterboxd!

This wasn’t a great movie month when it comes to the quantity of movies watched (total: 13). I did finally watch Psycho for the first time and I truly have no idea why it took me this long, especially considering how much I loved the Bates Motel tv series even knowing sometimes when I was missing context haha. This might call for a rewatch. Hmm. I finally watched Zola. Fantastic. I watched Turtles All the Way Down and while the movie was solid, I much prefer the book. I also saw Dune Part Two which was so much better than Dune Part One. That’s about all that’s worth mentioning this month. I have a feeling next month will be better!

Books

I finally read End of Days by Susan Ee, the final book in a trilogy that ended almost a decade ago. No idea why I didn’t read this the day it came out but it’s just as phenomenal today and makes me sad that so many writers aren’t as free as Susan has always been in her writing. No one in YA is doing it like her these days and that’s a shame. Traditional YA is truly missing out by not buying her work these days or work in general that is as free as what I just read. But execs don’t really take risks anymore, in publishing, on TV, in movies. It’s not the creatives at hands, it’s 100% the execs. Anyway, I read I believe 11 books this month, 5 of them were graphic novels, 1 was a coffee table book, and 2 were picture books.

What did you watch or read and enjoy in May?
