Joining in on the Virtual Adult Summer Reading Program

Earlier this evening while scrolling through Twitter, I discovered the Virtual Adult Summer Reading Program (VASRP) thanks to Octavia over at Read. Sleep. Repeat. and I was intrigued. So I clickety clicked and discovered there was a #VASRP Twitter chat happening within minutes. So I hopped in! There was fun summer chit chat for an hour and then the first challenge was thrown out! Well, for those like me who weren’t yet familiar with it. So here I go with challenge number one of the VASRP! Time to “Get Hooked on Books!”

Challenge One

1. Introduce Yourself

I’m Melody, thanks for stopping by my blog! I blog about TV, movies, books, and broadway! I am a huge TV/movie addict, hence, the “Hollywood” in the name of my blog. I’m 26, born and raised in New Jersey though I call LA my second home since I’ve lived there before and plan on moving back out there soon. As far as books go, I have always been a big reader and writer and I mostly read YA but I also read Adult, NA, nonfiction, and occasionally middle grade. I grew up on sci-fi and fantasy but absolutely love sci-fi while contemporary is hit or miss for me and everything else, I’m pretty open to. So yeah, that’s me. Any questions, feel free to ask!

2. My Summer Reading Goals Are…

Well, I’m doing the Summer Reading Diversity Spotlight where I review a diverse book every other day in the summer. I did it last year, so I figured an encore was in order. So far, so good. Other than that, I’d like to catch up on reading work by the contemporary romances writers that I know I love and really get in the summer mood, so to speak. I’m looking at you, Kasie West (P.S. I Like You)!

3. Did you participate in a summer program as a child? What made it memorable for you?

I did participate in summer reading programs as a child, at B&N, at the local library, and at school. I did it all and I loved it all. That said, my favorite summer reading memory actually doesn’t involve a program but a summer reading list from the high school that I would have gone to had I not moved shortly after middle school graduation. Even though I wasn’t going to go to that school, I still got the summer reading list and so then I decided that I wanted to get a taste of what books that school was putting on their list. So I picked one book from the list and dove right in. That book was The Pact by Jodi Picoult and after reading that book, Picoult became one of my favorite adult authors and still is to this day. Jodi Picoult’s work holds a very special place in my heart and I have a high school summer reading list to thank for that.

4. What is something interesting about yourself?

Gah! I have no idea. I feel like the situations that I put myself in are more interesting than me, if that makes sense. Like, when I lived in LA, I managed to get into the bleacher seats for the Emmy Awards…that was truly one of the most thrilling memories ever for me. Total bucket list item. But that’s not about me, you see? Yeah. So. People think that I’m interesting but it’s really just me being super passionate about the art of creating and within that, the arts in particular, be it the stage, screen, or the page, or co-creating YA Runs A 5K with NYT Bestselling Author, Susan Dennard (Truthwitch), so…yeahhhhh. *I’m* not particularly interesting but I am very interested in awesome books so I can’t wait to throw down this summer and get to know more of you readers in the VARSP! Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Reading!
