Today, I’m sharing a list of 2016 movie releases that prominently feature black actors and/or feature black actors that are recognizable no matter the size of the role as well as movies that were directed/written by black talent as I couldn’t find any comprehensive lists online so I thought I’d make a list.

I’m including worldwide, nationwide, and limited releases (Limited Theaters, On Demand, iTunes, Netflix, Hulu, Cable, TV Movies) as well as documentaries. I’m including the release dates (please note that some release dates may change), rating (when it’s been made available), and notable black cast/crew involved.

That said, note that since I haven’t seen these films yet (I will strikethrough a title to indicate that I have), I might be missing a name or two or including a name or two that isn’t as prominently featured as I originally thought. With this in mind, please don’t hesitate to kindly reach out and let me know what you believe needs updating.
