How has your summer been? Mine has been wonderful. I’ve been working hard as a summer intern at MunaLuchi Bride, a bridal magazine geared towards showcasing the stories of women of color. This internship has been a dream come true. As a writer, there’s nothing better than waking up and heading to a job that you love. And all summer long, I would wake up, head to MunaLuchi Bride, love every minute of it, and then head out early to get ready for my actual job which wasn’t so fun. So it brings me great joy to say that after impressing the higher ups at MunaLuchi Bride, I’ve been invited to join their team as a full time Editorial Assistant!

I can’t accurately tell you how exciting this is for me to accept this position. All of my life, I’ve had part time retail and restaurant jobs with the occasional freelance writing job thrown in and many unpaid writing opportunities as well so to have worked my butt off to get to this point where I have earned my first full time writerly job…all I can say is THANK YOU JESUS! I am SO excited. I am so pumped to get to work, to really make a mark here in my career as a professional writer. So I just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge this because this is a pretty big milestone for me.

The Munaluchi Bride summer internship began in June, shortly after my six month literary internship at The Bent Agency wrapped up. Since then, I’ve been on set for one cover shoot for MunaLuchi Bride and one styled shoot, both of which were oh so different (one being in a studio in NYC and one being in the woods of NJ) and have both given me memories I’ll never forget. I’ve written almost 100 articles, including a few features that I created and an interview with CC Gainer of Syfy’s Face Off. I’ve written a handful of articles that will be featured in the upcoming print issue of MunaLuchi Bride! My name in print. A byline. Oh. My. Goodness. I cannot wait until this issue releases! And it won’t be the only issue my name will be in! Wow! Last but certainly not least, I’ve learned so much behind the scenes and am so immensely grateful for the opportunity to continue to learn and grow under this company and bloom with it. To know that this is just the beginning blows my mind.

It feels like yesterday I was working on my very first post for MunaLuchi Bride and finding ways to incorporate my loves into my articles… for instance, the Tony Awards, Reading, YouTube, TV, Charity, France, Celebrity Interviews, and All Things Geek. If you like any of that, there’s so much more where that came from!

It’s been so much fun getting to see so many multicultural weddings through MunaLuchi and and it’s been a blast starting new features like “Bachelorette Party Inspiration” (check out: Napa Valley and Fragrance Party) and “X Things to Do in Y on Your Honeymoon” (So far, I’ve covered NY, Philly, Chicago, LA, and Washington D.C.) as well as “Honeymoon on a Budget” (I started with New Jersey).

The entire archive of my articles can be viewed at MunaLuchi Bride and feel free to re-pin any of the posts from my Pinterest Board!

Now because I spent the majority of my time this summer both at my internship and work, as well as conducting my Summer Reading Diversity Spotlight, I’ve had very little time to focus on my manuscripts and I admit, I’ve been very lax when it comes to my health and fitness. But I want to start this new season of my life right. So I’m going to challenge myself in these areas and am setting goals I’d like to reach by the end of the year. Hopefully there will be another life update soon in regards to all of this!

For now, one giant thank you to my older sister, Kira, who encouraged me to apply for the internship at MunaLuchi Bride. She was persistent and while usually that’s super annoying (sisters. shrug.), in this instance, well…it’s been great. She believed in me and she did something about it and I can’t tell you how great that support feels. Sisters. Yay! So THANK YOU.

Thank YOU for taking the time to read this post and thanks to everyone who’s been cheering me on. I can’t wait to make you even more proud!
