Hellcats Scoop Straight from Robbie Jones!

Hellcats is just one of the many new series that I am highly anticipating this fall. Having seen the Pilot, I can tell you right now that I was highly entertained and am looking forward to where the writers take these well crafted characters this season. One of those characters I was very interested in, so of course I interviewed the actor playing Lewis Flynn, Robbie Jones (One Tree Hill). Below, Robbie talks about love triangles, the music of Hellcats, he answers the question of if we will see him shoot some hoops this season, and more! Check it out:

Hellcats is inspired by the book, “Cheer! Inside the Secret World of College Cheerleaders” by Kate Torgovnick. Have you read it?
No, actually I haven’t read it because the show was inspired by the book but the storylines are completely separate and the show also went a completely different direction with the characters.

The show is based in Tennessee but have you ever been there?
I don’t think I have ever stopped and been to Memphis or anywhere in Tennessee but I believe I have gone through Tennessee before.

Can you talk about your experience working on the Pilot with the director, Allan Arkush most recently known for his work on Heroes and with Tom Welling?
Allan Arkush is an amazing director and a great visionary. His vision for this project was tremendous. He brought it to life and made us pop on screen. He did a fantastic job and he was a pleasure to work with. As for Tom Welling, he has been an endless support. He is the type of guy who really relates to other actors and he really did a great job in putting this project together. He’s been amazing.

How was the first day back at the table read, rehearsal, and finally on set and filming?
It has been a little crazy but a ton of fun. Everyone is doing great. We have a cast of beautiful, wonderful people so it has been so much fun. Vancouver is a great city, so we are really enjoying ourselves.

What are you looking forward to seeing the most in Vancouver while you are there all summer long and even into the fall?
There’s a place called Stanley Park and it’s right on the water and it’s gorgeous. I have never seen anything like it. It reminds me of San Francisco on the forest mixed with a mountainous city. It’s gorgeous. I want to do some hiking and sightseeing and just enjoy the things that I don’t really do when I am in Los Angeles.

Is there any chance we would see you shooting hoops when you are not at cheer leading practice and stuff?
(laughs) I would love that. But the University that the story line is set in is a football school and Lewis is a football guy, so I think we’ll see a lot of football action from him. But in my spare time, I am on the court – of course! I’ve been playing since I’ve been out here, of course. That’s how I stay in shape.

Now I saw the Pilot and there seems to be a love triangle/rectangle between Marti, Lewis, & Alice and possibly Dan. You don’t have to go into detail but have you ever been in a love rectangle or triangle?
(laughs)Ummm…I have partaken in a triangle or two in my life. If I was ever in a triangle, I think I was an unwilling participant. If I was ever in a triangle, I found out later on that I was in a triangle. I didn’t know going into it. I’m not a home wrecker. (laughs) No triangles, no rectangles, I just like A and B, one line in between.

Now moving onto what I best know you from…One Tree Hill. Did you watch this past season of One Tree Hill?
You know, I haven’t really been able to keep up with the show but I know it is doing really well and I am so happy for everyone on the show. OTH is a great family. I’ve seen Sophia a couple of times, Austin a couple of times, James too. I’ve hung out with Chad a few times and have stayed in touch with most of the cast including Antwon and Joy. Though I’m kind of out of the loop on the OTH action. Joe Manganiello would fill me on for awhile but then he moved onto True Blood. You know, it seems like when you are on there, you are really blessed when you move on to other projects. There’s something great Mark Schwahn has got going on down there.

Something I noticed is that while I absolutely love the music on One Tree Hill, the music is noticeably really good on Hellcats. So what artists or bands would you like to see featured?
Yeah, One Tree Hill is known for their music. It’s almost like watching a music video every episode. I think Hellcats will follow suit on that a but because Memphis has such a rich musical tradition. And they certainly didn’t want to eliminate that from the flavor of the show. I think our show is very much going to be a music driven show as well and it will be nice to see some talent that you might not necessarily hear on the radio. A lot of artists on One Tree Hill would play their music on the show and then would blow up. So maybe we can do that for some new artists. We’ll see what happens. I think it will be great.

One Tree Hill had Tric, where a lot of the artists performed and I noticed that Hellcats has a pub on campus. So do you think that would be this show’s meeting point, hangout point?
I wouldn’t put it past them. I think that based on the way that it looks in the Pilot, that’s the central point for the Hellcats and other students on campus.

Aside from football and his relationship with Marti, what can we expect from Lewis?
I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw Lewis cheering. (laughs)

(laughs)

From what I have seen and heard, it’s going to be…well, interesting doesn’t put it too well. You’re going to see some different sides of Lewis. He can be a lover and at the same time he can be a take no mess type of guy too. I think he’s going to stand up for what he believes in and he will be a man’s man. But we’ll see, stay tuned.

Hellcats premieres Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 9/8c on The CW.
