Recap & Review: The Wendy Williams Show Season Premiere

I was asked by a Hollywood the Write Way reader (Cheri) to review the Season Premiere of The Wendy Williams Show. So I turned to Fox at 10am EST to watch the live show. The show started out with Celebrity Hot Topics… Michael Jackson and Jon Gosselin were mentioned in the hot topics. MJ was the main focus and I actually learned something (LaToya signed the death certificate). I found that the celebrity hot topics will be entertaining but will talk about the more serious topics too (in a more concerned, less gossipy type of way, so that is good). So that was a great segment.

Then Wendy talked about celebrity friends in her head. I enjoyed this a lot because I have my own celebrity friends in my head and none of my everyday friends own up to the fact that they have their own too! So this was a great part of the show. If you listen to Wendy Williams then you already know about the celebrity friends in my head so it is great to see her bring that to the show. Next…special guest, Vanessa Williams came out and talked about the new season of “Ugly Betty” which I am all too excited about. I was all too thrilled to know that there will be musical episodes this season! How exciting! Great special guest! I am so glad that the special guest was someone that I watch and enjoy. Towards the end of the show, Vanessa performed a song from her new CD, “The Real Thing.” I wish I knew what the song was called because I enjoyed it. Before she performed, Wendy showed a clip of when she was working on her radio show and was given a plaque that announced today as Wendy Williams Appreciation Day in the borough of Manhattan, as she is the queen of all media! That is a great honor so congrats to her! It is well deserved!

Next, there was an “Ask Wendy” segment where audience members get the opportunity to ask Wendy whatever questions they have. The entire show is a very loose setting when it comes to the audience participation and as fun as that may seem…I am still on the fence about how I feel about that. I have attended many live show tapings and none of them were as loose as this setting so I think it will take some time for me to really come up with a set feeling on this. Although being part of the audience would really give me an idea of what it is like and I am debating whether or not I should get tickets and find out for real what I think. Anyway, the show closed with the audience members holding Whitney Houston fans to promote the countdown to her new long awaited album, “I Look To You” and Wendy announced tomorrow’s guests…which are Brooke Burke and Jeremih. Actually, I think she only said the latter but both will be on tomorrow.

I listen to The Wendy Williams Experience when I actually listen to the radio and she’s on but I never did watch her show on VH1, which apparently was just a “six week preview” for what is now her show on Fox. The only daytime shows that I am dedicated to are Live with Regis & Kelly and The View and quite frankly, I am all too comfortable with that routine. Don’t get me wrong, I like change…but I already listen to Wendy on the radio and I kind of feel like that is enough Wendy for one day. So…only time will tell if I stick with this show. It seems like a very entertaining show so I know that it will do well. Personally, the better special guests, the more times I will watch!

  1. don't bother going unless you want to be abused by her staff – rude and unprofessional.
