In today’s edition of The Vine, a spin off of the Sunday Branch feature, my notes refer to John 21 (Amplified Version).

Verse 3
Peter went fishing because he was a fisherman. That’s all he knew. That was familiar. But he caught NOTHING. They came up EMPTY HANDED. Think about what’s familiar in your life and what you’re catching.
Verse 6
Haul in the blessings.
Verse 7
Peter is so dramatic! He’s trying to be the first this time. Okaaayyy.
Verse 11
They didn’t lose any fish. Not one.
Verses 15-17
What a suck up. Anyway, Jesus is asking Peter 3x if he loves Him, restoring Peter. Instead of rubbing the 3x denial in Peter’s face, Jesus humbled and loved Peter. He’s restoring him publicly instead of tearing him down. Think about that.
Verse 16
He’s telling Peter to feed his new followers. Love on them. Guide them. Tend to them. The Shepherd brings in the scattered sheep and leads them back, brings them back to the field (of grace).
Verse 18
He’s talking about how Peter is going to die. Peter was young and doing his thing but soon he’s going to a place where he didn’t want to go (like Jesus) and Peter will be crucified. This seems like a good time to mention that all of the disciples except John were martyred. John wrote the book of Revelation alone.
Verses 20-21
Peter was jealous of John.
Verse 22
Snap! Snap! Bye Felicia!
Verse 25
The love of Jesus manifested in John. Has the loved of Jesus manifested in you?
Thank you for reading my notes for the book of John! I’ll be back with another book in the Spring!
