July 2024 Wrap Up

Well, well. I just realized that I never posted a What’s on My Radar for July. I’m not sure how that got away from me but alas, we are here at the end of July! So let’s get into it!

TV

Snowpiercer is back (now on AMC) for its final season and I am going to enjoy every single moment. Orphan Black: Echoes sort of addressed my issue that I shared previously so I am put more at ease than I was before and can believe where they are going with the story now. The Ark is back on Syfy and I feel like I’m the only one I know watching this show. It’s got all of the sci-fi tropes I’m a sucker for so I am eating it up. Evil is almost over and wow, I had no idea when this series began, how much I’d love this show. There are only a few episodes left of the series and I’m definitely going to miss it. Bravo to everyone involved on this show. Did y’all see how Reginald the Vampire season 2 ended?! Oh my goodness! Season 3 would have been so epic. I am so mad Syfy cancelled it. Ugh! I hoped we would have gotten at least 3-4 seasons, I had a feeling 5 seasons would have been a pipe dream. But they really cut the chord early on this one.

Apple canceled The Big Door Prize which was disappointing but also expected as I don’t know anyone else who even knows the show exists let alone watches it. Apple does a terrible job promoting its shows so I am holding my breath on some other Apple shows on the bubble as well. Halo was canceled by Paramount+. I very much enjoyed this show and would have loved to have seen it go on for a few more seasons. Alas.

As for reality TV, y’all know I limit my reality TV pretty much to Big Brother with 1-2 other reality shows here and there. I cut out 99% of reality tv out of my life many years ago after I did the Daniel Fast and realized how much reality TV I was consuming and how unhealthy it was haha. But ya girl will not let go of Big Brother. So far, I’m hoping Angela and Lisa get eliminated because their social games are awful to say the least. Claim to Fame is also back on ABC though I’m going to wait for episodes to stack up so I can watch the first half of the season and then the second half of the season in 2 sittings. That’s it on that front!

Movies

Note: Be sure to follow me on Letterboxd!

I was able to go to the movies for the first time in awhile and it was glorious. I loved A Quiet Place: Day One. So good. I also recommend listening to The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith Podcast episode for A Quiet Place: Day One (where Jeff interviewed the writer/director, Michael Sarnoski) if you love the A Quiet Place franchise. I love this franchise so much, oh my goodness.

I also watched quite a lot of movies (streaming) that I enjoyed, including The Fall Guy, IF, Civil War, Abigail, Relax, I’m from the Future, & Molli and Max in the Future. I’m not a horror girlie so let it be known that I did watch Abigail in the morning in broad daylight. I can safely say that it wasn’t scary haha.

Finally, I watched Heathers for the first time, in honor of Shannen Doherty, may she rest in peace. I love Shannen because of her TV work so I can’t say that aside from her TV movies, I had really seen much of her other movies. So I finally sat down to watch her most iconic movie role. Enjoyed the movie overall but you definitely had to be there type of situation to consider that movie a classic. I get it, I do, but I’m just too late on that train and that’s okay. I have Charmed and Beverly Hills 90210 for my Shannen memories.

My August goal? More animated films. We shall see how I do!

Books

Let’s not get into how I checked out about 8 books from the library and only read two. But of the two books that I did read this month, The Moon That Turns You Back: Poems was 5 stars. It is a beautiful collection of poetry by Palestinian writer, Hala Alyan. Highly, highly recommend. I think I’ll be reading more in August, I’m feeling the itch. We shall see!

What did you watch or read and enjoy in July?
