February 2018 Releases On My Radar

Jumping right into TV, Celebrity Big Brother premieres TOMORROW and I am so pumped. It better be good too, shoot. As for scripted television, I’m looking forward to checking out Seven Seconds on Netflix though that’s my bias since I’m down for anything that Regina King is involved in. I’ve also started watching Netflix’s Altered Carbon and it’s alright but it’s not binge worthy amazing like I hoped it would be. They can’t all be winners.

I feel like I’ve heard nothing about Alan Ball’s HBO series, Here and Now so I don’t know what to make of that. Gah. As for returning shows, I’m most excited about The Walking Dead, iZombie, and Unreal. Woo! It’s been ages since new Unreal and it feels like ages as well for iZombie just because I’m itchin for more. My love for TWD is still large though not as fevered as it once was so I am patiently waiting for the final half of the season.

As for movies, now that I have Movie Pass, I am SERIOUSLY upping my movie game and I am so, so, so happy to return to this type of viewing experience because I love movies, have always loved movies, and now they’re way more easily accessible again, which for a handful of years there they weren’t given the rising movie theater prices. Anyway, I’m really looking forward to seeing Black Panther a million times, along with my other two most highly anticipated movies this month… Annihilation and The 15:17 to Paris. We already know I’m in for a sci-fi movie but this cast?!?!?! Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Tuva Novotny, and Oscar Isaac. I repeat,  Natalie Portman, Gina Rodriguez, and Tessa Thompson. OH MY GOD.  *Fans self* I am so happy to see a sci-fi blockbuster with these BAMFs taking the lead and I am so so so pumped to see Gina in this dramatic role (since I watch her killing it on the romantic dramedy, Jane the Virgin each week). I need to read the book before I see the movie, of course. As for the other movie, if you didn’t already know, the three real life heroes who saved the day are playing themselves in this Clint Eastwood directed film. Ah-maze-ing.

I’m also looking forward to the movie adaptation of David Levithan’s Every Day which I loved. The story follows Rhiannon who falls in love with A, who inhabits a different body every day. The concept is 100% in my lane and the execution is A+ on paper so I’m very curious to see how they manage to bring this out of this world concept not just to the big screen but to the mainstream. I’m also ready to laugh while watching Game Night. Other notable mentions but if for some reason I don’t catch them in theaters but on Netflix, I’ll be fine with, are The Cured and Pad Man.

Finally, booksThe Belles by Dhonielle Clayton and American Panda by Gloria Chao both released TODAY and y’all need to get on both of these books now before the mainstream gets ear of them. Then there’s Sightwitch by Susan Dennard which I had the pleasure of reading early. Dare I say it is my absolute favorite of the Witchlands series so far! I cannot wait for you guys to read this book! I think it could be your favorite too! My vegan side is highly, highly anticipating the release of Hot for Food Vegan Comfort Classics: 101 Recipes to Feed Your Face by Lauren Toyota. The Hot For Food Blog and YouTube have been a Godsend to me as a new vegan and will continue to be one of my go to resources for absolutely amazing vegan food. I can’t wait to have my very own copy of this one.
