So what’s on my radar that I’m super pumped about this month? Starting with TV premieres, I’m feeling quite emotional about the final season Orphan Black coming to BBC America this month. What a ride it’s been. Orphan Black is one of my favorite sci-fi dramas ever so for it to be coming to an end…I just don’t have the words right now. I am going to savor every last moment.
I’m also super pumped for the return of Dark Matter (Syfy) which, I think it’s safe to say (again?) is my favorite summer drama hands down. I’m also anticipating the return of AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead (yes, I’m still watching and enjoying this show) and OWN’s Queen Sugar after its spectacular first season.
When it comes to new dramas, the only one that I’m counting down to is The Mist on Spike. Didn’t read the book (whoops, I should) but I loved the movie and every time the movie is on TV, I stop what I’m doing to watch. So, yeah, The Mist TV adaptation better be good.
As for comedy, an all new season of Playing House returns to USA after a super long hiatus. I was starting to get antsy about the hiatus and then I felt like a jerk about that after Jessica St. Clair revealed her battle with cancer. Huge kudos to USA for not dropping the show after one of their leads had to take a huge step back to take care of herself. Jessica’s character on the show is going to be diagnosed with the same exact type of cancer this season so I am anticipating seeing indeed the most personal season to date for the show. Then there’s Wrecked on TBS, that Lost-esque comedy which I can’t get enough of. It’s hysterical and under-appreciated and I wish more Losties were watching – it’s kind of divided there which is completely understandable but man, I love it!
Y’all know I’m not big on reality and reality competition shows and all of that but Big Brother (CBS) is MY JAM as is Syfy’s Face Off and they’re both back this month. Woo!! I definitely did not watch that online season of BB (did anyone?) so I’m hoping that was just a one off because I don’t want to have to watch online seasons in between the actual TV seasons. The idea of it was nice but actually carving out more time for that? Ugh. BB already takes up so much time as is, my goodness.
Lastly on the TV front, I’m so excited for the Peabody Awards to air even though we’ve known the winners for weeks ha ha and even more pumped for the Tony Awards even though I already know it won’t come close to last year.
As for movie releases, it’s all about Wonder Woman. You guys. Wonder Woman releases TOMORROW. This movie was announced as an official thing in the fall of 2014. We’ve known this time would come for years. There is NO excuse to not have planned ahead and carved out time and money to support this movie and see it opening weekend. GO SEE THIS MOVIE THIS WEEKEND. This is our moment. Also, I’ve got to have my comedy, so I’m very much looking forward to The House starring Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler (and you, know, literally anything starring Will Ferrell and/or Amy Poehler).
Finally…book releases! My most anticipated June release without question is Now I Rise by Kiersten White, the sequel to And I Darken which was one of my favorite books last year. I am also highly anticipating Want by Cindy Pon, Our Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab, and Be True to Me by Adele Griffin.
