It’s time for another YA Treats, a feature in which I mash up diverse young adult (YA) books and healthy, vegan treats. You can follow my instagram (@yatreats) or the tags, #YATreats and #TheYAVegan to keep track of this feature. Book recommendations are welcome; keep in mind recs must be of diverse YA titles (fiction or nonfiction).
Today, I present to you…
Mango Is All You Left Me Bowl
I loved Adam Silvera’s debut novel, More Happy Than Not (Add it to Goodreads) which released from Soho Teen to much acclaim in 2015. You can read my review of the book here and I highly recommend that you add both his debut and his sophomore release, History Is All You Left Me (Add it to Goodreads) to your shelf and read them before his third novel, They Both Die at the End (Add it to Goodreads) releases this fall from HarperTeen.
History Is All You Left Me Synopsis
When Griffin’s first love and ex-boyfriend, Theo, dies in a drowning accident, his universe implodes. Even though Theo had moved to California for college and started seeing Jackson, Griffin never doubted Theo would come back to him when the time was right. But now, the future he’s been imagining for himself has gone far off course.
To make things worse, the only person who truly understands his heartache is Jackson. But no matter how much they open up to each other, Griffin’s downward spiral continues. He’s losing himself in his obsessive compulsions and destructive choices, and the secrets he’s been keeping are tearing him apart.
If Griffin is ever to rebuild his future, he must first confront his history, every last heartbreaking piece in the puzzle of his life.

The Treat
This smoothie bowl includes 2 frozen bananas, 2 cups of frozen mangoes, 1/4 cup of rolled oats, and almond milk as needed. I topped it with frozen blueberries, coconut shreds, hemp seeds, banana, chia seeds, cacao nibs, and granola.
Bonus Treat
I also recently made a chickpea salad while bumping up An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir (Add it to Goodreads) on my TBR because I have no idea why I have not yet read this, it’s been on my shelf forever. As for the salad, it kind of has everything that I had in my fridge on it. I went bananas. The base is spinach. Then I added cherry tomatoes, red onion, cucumbers, red pepper slices, sweet peppers, banana peppers, a black olive, blueberries, almond halves, nutritional yeast, dijon mustard (check to make sure it’s vegan, if you’re vegan) and red wine vinegar. This was so filling, oh my goodness! I loved it!
