I was pleasantly surprised last weekend when I received in the mail a beautiful new coloring and activity book for grown-ups that’s for women and created by a woman.
It’s called Boss Babes (Goodreads) and in it, Illustrator, Michelle Volansky has created a fun ode to the biggest bosses in the world, from Beyoncé and Mindy Kaling to Malala and Hillary Clinton, and everyone in between. The book is small, clocking in at just over 90 pages, featuring over 40 diverse BAMFs in music and performing arts, Hollywood, publishing, politics, sports, and more.
The activities include everything from the familiar crossword puzzle, word search, and connect the dots to the exciting fill in the blank adlib take, “Let’s Help Tina Fey Write An Episode of 30 Rock” and more. I haven’t seen any mash up of coloring books and activity books for grown-ups so this as the first one that I’m seeing makes me very excited for more. I really hope this is the beginning of a series of inspiring and entertaining coloring + activity books from Workman Publishing because I would love to collect ’em all!
Thanks Workman Publishing for sending Boss Babes my way! They also sent Paint by Sticker: Music Icons (Goodreads) which was interesting to flip through but not an activity book that I connected with. In this, you’re able to re-create 12 classic photographs one sticker at a time. For me, that sounds like a nightmare even though it’s easy if you just take your time with it and don’t (overthink it and) shake a ton while you’re putting the stickers in the right place. My creation would look like a crooked hot mess so I’m not even going to attempt it but it’s pretty neat for those who like sticker activities, I would imagine. This includes legends such as Dolly Parton, Prince, and Michael Jackson. Here’s what the two books look like together.
So which could you see yourself curling up with on a lovely weekend afternoon?
