An all new episode of Face Off: All Stars airs tonight on Syfy! So as usual, here’s a recap of last week!
Host, McKenzie Westmore met the artists outside of the lab, which was set up as a winter wonderland, to deliver this week’s spotlight challenge. The artists had to create a Snow Queen inspired by a unique snowflake that was buried in the snow around them. After the fun snowflake treasure hunt, a snowball fight ensued which was adorable since many of the artists had never seen snow in real life. This time around, the artists only had TWO days to complete the challenge instead of the usual three.
Based on the concepts, I was most anticipating Tyler and Emily’s creation, Ben and Evan’s creation, & Logan & Adam’s creation. In the lab though, it seemed Ben and Evan were struggling to blend their two visions. Also worth noting, I love seeing how Niko and Cat work in the lab. They are the most adorable couple/work partners.
While in the lab, the artists had a fun time teasing Emily, the hopeless romantic who has never seen some of the classic fantasy movies, teen movies, and horror films of the 80s and on. It’s great that we get to see more of the downtime this season, with the artists on teams. I’m sure we’ll only get more and more as the eliminations start racking up.
On the reveal stage, Tyler and Emily’s was quite different and I absolutely loved it. I also really enjoyed Logan & Adam’s creation. Ben and Evan’s creation was solid outside of this challenge but within the challenge, it didn’t quite seem to fit. Niko and Cat’s creation was pretty but not as intimidating as it should have been. The same can be said for Gage and Rachael’s creation. I got what Cig and George were going for but I didn’t enjoy it. I also can’t say that I was super impressed with Keaghlan and Melissa’s creation but I couldn’t quite pinpoint why, so it’s good to have the professionals lay out what the average viewer can’t… the proportions were wrong and overall it was too busy, making it confusing for the audience. Thanks, judges for spelling that out.
The judges, Ve Neill, Neville Page, and Glenn Hetrick gave their top looks to Logan & Adam and Emily & Tyler with the latter winning. Per Glenn Hetrick’s words, their creation was absolutely exquisite. Indeed. It was easily the best creation this week. I honestly didn’t love this challenge because there weren’t many creations that I loved. Maybe the next challenge will be better for the majority of the teams?
The bottom looks were Niko & Cat and Keaghlan & Melissa with Niko & Cat being eliminated. Oh, man. Even Ve Neill teared up as the judges wished the couple the best on their way out. Was this the first episode you teared up on because it surely was for me.
