TV Talk – Face Off All Stars Episode 11.02 Recap & Review “The Devil is in the Details”

An all new episode of Face Off airs tonight on Syfy! Here’s what happened last week:

Host, McKenzie Westmore met the artists at a Westminster Presbyterian Church in Pasadena to give them their next Spotlight Challenge, creating both an angel character and devil character, inspired by one good trait and one bad trait from themselves. And as McKenzie said, because everyone has both an angel and a devil inside, the teams of artists had to apply both the angel makeup and devil makeup onto one model. Whoa. A two in one, talk about a challenge. I love how all stars is really rising the stakes.

Keaghlan & Melissa received immunity last week so even if their design wasn’t the best, at least they knew they were safe. They chose to go with structure, order, & selflessness for the angel makeup and judgmental for the devil makeup. Ben and Evan also chose selflessness and greed absorbing that while Gage and Rachael chose selfishness and selflessness. Quite interesting how many teams chose selflessness. Meanwhile, Logan and Adam chose protection/guardian and lust. Jasmine and Stella, who I’m rooting for and worried about this season, had no concept when left alone in the church and were still struggling on day one in the lab. It wasn’t looking good for these two. They finally settled on stubbornness and openness of the heart. Great concept, now they just needed to get it done in time.

My absolute favorite concept went to Cig and George. As Cig described it, “Creativity and our bad trait is self doubt. And they’re constantly warring with one another. We’re creating an angel character who is chiseling armor out of this stone that is literally weighing her down.” I also loved how Niko and Cat incorporated their relationship into their challenge, choosing loyalty and jealousy as their traits. The third concept that I absolutely loved was Tyler and Emily choosing compassion, with guilt eroding that compassion away. Absolutely beautiful. I can’t even express how much I loved these concepts.

Series mentor, Michael Westmore joined the artists in the lab and had a lot of notes for the teams. Then the artists took some time out to bring out cupcakes and celebrate Tyler’s birthday. That was so sweet!

On the reveal stage, judges, Ve Neill, Neville Page, and Glenn Hetrick kept Keaghlan and Melissa, Gage and Rachael, & Cig and George safe. I loved Cig & George’s creation and really liked the others as well. As for the rest? I loved Tyler and Emily’s creation as well as Niko and Cat’s.

The top looks were Ben and Evan & Niko and Cat with Niko and Cat taking the win, rightfully so. I liked Ben and Evan’s creation but I wasn’t in love with it so it wasn’t even a top look for me. But Niko and Cat killed this challenge and were in a league of their own. They knocked this one out of the park.

The bottom looks were Logan & Adam, who had a great concept but the execution fell flat and Jasmine & Stella who struggled throughout this entire challenge and it showed. With a bottom look in the first two weeks, Stella and Jasmine were the ones to be knocked out this week. It’s going to be very sad to see them go but it’s understandable given their creations. Can’t wait for the next episode when the artists head to Mattel!
