TV Review: Rosewood Episode 2.02 “Secrets and Silent Killers”

Tonight on Rosewood, Rosie (Morris Chestnut)  and Annalise (Jaina Lee Ortiz)  discover that their murder victim has a death certificate from three years ago. The case doesn’t get interesting until about halfway into the episode when Tate Ellington (Quantico) makes an appearance and Rosie and Annalise really start making progress in the case. Plus, the two really beginning to solve Annalise’s husband’s murder kind of makes the case of the week a non-issue right now. Hopefully this is just the case for this week, the excitement of the two taking on the big bag together at its highest for the moment. So, what else is happening in the world of Rosewood?

“T, is everything good?” – Rosie

“Oh yeah, never better. Why wouldn’t everything be good? It’s better than good, actually. It is great! Everything is great!” – Tara

“I’m pretty sure that’s exactly what Beyonce said to Jay-Z right before she dropped Lemonade. Remember the Beyhive.” – Mitchie

Tara (Anna Konkle) has given Pippy (Gabrielle Dennis) lots of space after the break up but now she’s ready to reach out again. Pippy, on the other hand, still needs her space though, so reconnecting is not going to be easy. Something tells me these two will be back together, respecting each other’s pacing for the relationship, by the midseason finale at the latest. What do you think?

Then there’s Mitchie (Sam Huntington) who brings such a lovely, warm, comedic light to the show, as he does on any show that he’s on. He’s the best addition to the show since the show began so I hope there are no signs of him leaving anytime soon. Series regular status for Huntington, please.

And there’s Donna (Lorraine Toussaint) who isn’t doing much around the lab but is still trying to keep her secret. Until the secret comes out…and now it’s not so yawn worthy. We knew he was a criminal but wow. They really did a number on the “What did he do?” front. It’s not like she’s fallen for someone who’s innocent and ended up in the system.  I mean, there’s still time to go that route but surely, they wouldn’t? Right? He’s a serial killer who kills women. How do you “innocent” your way around that one? Great job on the reveal here. So yes, now I am significantly more interested in this secret romance of Donna’s, perhaps her midlife crisis? We shall see.

Finally, a noteworthy moment. Hornstock (Domenick Lombardozzi) confronts Captain Slade (Eddie Cibrian), asking how a trust fund kid ends up where he is now. If that doesn’t pique your interest in Slade’s backstory…another solid episode of Rosewood. Not as exciting as last week’s premiere but solid nonetheless.

Watch Rosewood Thursdays at 8/7c on Fox.
