If you’re a fan of YouTube stars, Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart, like me, or you’re already a fan of the TV series this movie adaptation was made from, you already know about Electra Woman and Dyna Girl coming to DVD soon. But the best part is, you don’t have to wait until then to see the movie!

Now I haven’t seen the original Electra Woman and Dyna Girl so any references to the original went right over my head. I am, however an avid YouTube viewer and greatly appreciated the classic Grace and Hannah humor sprinkled throughout their characters, social media references, puns, and more. These girls are funny and they know how to deliver the goods. Plus, this is also a pretty great satire on familiar storytelling tropes of action films. Talk about amusing one liners. There’s plenty here.

Story wise, this is about as formulaic as they come. Two best friends turned superheroes make it in Hollywood, one of them is labeled the sidekick, the duo breaks up, the villain gets their time to shine, and the duo makes up after some much needed saving and butt kicking. It’s predictable but it’s a relatable, heartwarming and charming story about being there for the people that we care about and never losing ourselves when as reach success.

Yes, this movie is about superheroes but my favorite aspect of the movie is that this is a story about two female superheroes who, even on their worst day, are there for each other. This is a friendship story through and through and that alone is reason to watch as there aren’t enough of these to go around.

While I don’t know how much someone who isn’t a fan of either Hart or Helbig or the original superhero story can appreciate this movie, I’d say it’s worth checking out to find out. Electra Woman and Dyna Girl is laugh out loud funny, has more heart than most movies I’ve seen all year, and is the perfect movie to start off or end a weekend. So be sure to get your digital copy today.

Electra Woman and Dyna Girl is available now on Digital HD and releases on DVD July 5, 2016.
