The latest Syfy original drama, Hunters premieres TONIGHT at 10/9c and after watching the series premiere, here are five reasons why I think you should watch!
Executive produced by genre masterminds Gale Anne Hurd (“The Walking Dead”) and Natalie Chaidez (Syfy’s “12 Monkeys,” “Heroes”), HUNTERS follows Baltimore FBI agent Flynn Carroll’s quest to track down his missing wife. His search leads him to a highly-classified government organization – the Exo-Terrorism Unit (ETU) – who track and fight alien terrorists.
1. Aliens
They look like us…until they don’t. We see when they don’t and it’s gross (their insides) and cool (they sort of fly and so on) and everything in between. We’re also jumping into the story with a unit already hunting them down so you know they’re super evil and there’s already lots of trouble to contain. Good stuff.
2. African American Female in Main Cast! Yay!
You may know Britne Oldford from Skins or American Horror Story. Now, she plays Allison Regan, the most valuable operative of the Exo-Terrorism Unit (ETU). She’s good. I’m excited to see where her character goes this season. Especially since she’s on the good side but also has ties to the other.
3. Julian McMahon. Yes please.
Fellow Charmed fans will be thrilled to find out that the one and only Julian McMahon is on this show. Syfy has been good to him as of late, he was last seen in the awesome Syfy mini series, Childhood’s End. Anyway, he’s playing a hunter (with a bad hairstyle), which one character describes in the series premiere in this way: Hunters make ISIS look like Girl Scouts. So…another vicious character to add to his resume. It’s all we could ever want.
4. Diversity In More Ways Than One
Shannon Berry plays Emme Dawson, the adopted daughter of the main character, Flynn and his wife, Abby. She is autistic and self harms. So far, I love the depth of this character and the portrayal of all that she is which we are only just beginning to see.
5. The Mystery
There are lots of questions raised in the series premiere and only time will tell if it’s worth it to stick around for the entire first season but so far, I like that the show has introduced the essentials and is taking its time with other details. I can see that the show is building up to more and think the premiere is solid so I’ll be watching the next few episodes to see where that more leads. If you like aliens, mystery, diversity, and really good looking people on both the good and bad sides, watch Hunters!
