12 Monkeys premieres its highly anticipated second season TONIGHT at 9/8c on Syfy and boy, am I excited for this show to be back! It was one of my favorite, if not my absolute favorite new drama of 2015 so for it to be back is a dream come true. I had the pleasure of watching the season premiere early and it is so, so hard not to spoil anything because you definitely have to see how this all unfolds for yourself but I can say a few things…
Now Playing: “Time Is On My Side”
It begins at the end and ends at the beginning.
The season 2 premiere finds us in Budapest and Manhattan 2016 following Cole and Ramse & 2043 following Cassandra and Katarina. From the very first moment of the premiere, it’s a race for time and humanity as missions are delayed, missions are destroyed, fate is defied or at least many try to embrace free will and use it for good. But everyone thinks what they’re doing is for the greater good so conflict is everywhere in time, no matter the place.
One of my favorite parts about this episode? Katarina and Cassandra are BAMFs. Especially Cassandra, wow! By the end of the episode, you’ll be wondering what happened to season one Cassandra. Yeah. Season One Cassandra is gone. Season Two Cassandra is a warrior. In her fight against The Army of the 12 Monkeys, on her journey in the future, she’s leveled up from the intellectual fighter to, well, you’ll see for yourself. Cassandra kicks butt. I loved every single minute of it and I think you will too. Especially as the season goes on.
Also worth mentioning, Brian Quinn (Impractical Jokers) makes an appearance in the premiere and brings his classic humor with him. Speaking overall, I loved how the writers sprinkled just enough humor all throughout the episode. Great work on the premiere from all angles. Really great job.
The season two premiere has proven once again just how gripping this edge of your seat sci-fi drama is. 12 Monkeys is so exhilarating and if you thought you felt the best of the roller coaster ride in season one…you have no idea. Pop your popcorn and get ready to have a blast tonight! You will not want to miss this!
Favorite Quotes From Episode 2.01 “Year of the Monkey”

“Grieving over who we were only gets in the way of who we need to become.” – Katarina
“Faith in humanity restored. Faith in myself? Not so much.” – Jennifer
Teaser Thoughts: Do not continue reading if you don’t want to know about what’s coming up!
A Look Ahead: Episode 2.02 “Primary”
So…Cassandra. In 2044, in a kill or be killed world, Cassandra adapts and becomes a fighter unlike what we’ve seen before. It is glorious. I am loving the new Cassandra and I can see both the pros and cons in the new Cassandra so I’m really looking forward to seeing how the writers play with this character arc this season.
Some important dates to note from this episode: August 2, 2044. September 1944. We go to neither of these times in this episode, those dates are simple noteworthy for reasons you’ll understand when you get to watch the episode. Also, a noteworthy number…607.
Standout moments from the episode?
– We see time change! We see time change before our very eyes. I loved it so!
– Cole doesn’t listen to Jennifer. Typical. Nobody seems to ever listen to her and really only because it’s too hard and they don’t want to take the time to listen, to understand. If only they did. This is super frustrating since she has all of the answers and proves it time and time again. This time though, it’s her actions that prove to Cole that in all of his killing throughout, it turns out that saving one person’s life can really truly change the future. What a profound moment this is indeed for Cole. For anyone to realize. I loved it. I loved Jennifer and Cole in this episode, especially Jennifer. The developments with Jennifer were pretty huge.
– Finally, Katarina. Can someone say possible love interest? OooOoooOooo! Don’t get my hopes up for nothing, writers. Although who knows how many more times will change. Even with this possibility, it may not last exist forever.
I fear I’ve shared too much! So I shall stop now but yes, this was yet another wonderful episode which you’ll have to wait until NEXT Monday to catch!
Favorite Quotes From Episode 2.02 “Primary”
“Sometimes you have to accept that not every caterpillar becomes a butterfly.” – Cassandra
“You’re stuck. Nobody wants you anymore.” – Jennifer
A Look Ahead: Episode 2.03 “One Hundred Years”
Okay, so, 1944 happens in this episode. 1944 and 2044. In the hundred year time difference, we get under the tough exterior of the new Cassandra when she shows her vulnerability for a moment to Cole. Can I just say how much I love how the tables have turned in this dynamic, Cassie now the rough character with a sense of urgency, Cole doing what he needs to do but not allowing himself to get all tense about it.
This episode brings some laughs, heartfelt moments, and really tense moments. Especially when we take a visit to crazy land with Erik Knudsen (Continuum) making an appearance. Which brings lots of red. Lots of red red red. But this episode airs in May so I’ll stop teasing now. That’s all I’ll say but I think that’s plenty! I enjoyed every moment of every episode, especially the season premiere. If you can watch the season two premiere live, trust me, you want to watch as it airs! Enjoy!
