Web Series Review: Con Man

About a year ago, you may have heard about Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion crowd funding to make the web series, Con Man. That project was fully funded on Indiegogo and I can’t believe I am just now getting to watching it. For all of my fellow convention goers and sci-fi fantasy lovers, this comedy web series is almost like a love letter to fandom, sci-fi actors with cult followings, and the ridiculousness of it all. I loved it. You will love it! Check out the trailer and my review below!

Genre: Comedy, Sci-fi Fantasy
Running Time: 13 Episodes, 2 Hours 44 Minutes Total
Starring: Alan Tudyk, Nathan Fillion, Sean Astin, Ari Stidham, Wil Wheaton, Mindy Sterling, Felicia Day, Nolan North, Henry Rollins, Tricia Helfer, Leslie Jordan, Sean Maher, Dileep Rao, Summer Glau, Joss Whedon, Milo Ventimiglia, Gina Torres, Alison Haislip, Seth Green, Jewel Staite, Michael Dorn, Kevin Grevioux, Amy Acker, Liza Lapira, James Gunn, Skyler Day, Candice Patton, Michael Trucco, etc…

Con Man centers on the post-show life of Wray Nerely (Alan Tudyk) the co-star of “Spectrum,” a sci-fi series, which was canceled before its time and went on to become a cult classic beloved by fans. Wray’s good friend, Jack Moore (Nathan Fillion) starred as the series Captain and has gone on to become a major celebrity, while Wray (Tudyk) hasn’t found his desired level of stardom. Wray is the begrudging guest of sci-fi conventions, comic book store appearances, and different pop culture events; however, everything is not as it seems from the outside. The series will explore these events and all the weird and crazy things that happen to them along the way.

Con Man was funded via Indiegogo, resulting in a record-breaking 3.2 million dollar campaign. With the support of over 46,000 fans from around the world, Con Mannow stands as the third highest funded film campaign on any crowdfunding platform ever.

Con Man is executive produced by PJ Haarsma, Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion.

I cannot even count the number of times I laughed watching Con Man. I don’t remember the last time I laughed this much. I loved this web series. Everything about it. Every second was even more entertaining than the last. This was great.

From the familiar faces to the not so familiar, everyone delivered a laugh whether through their lines, physical gags or both and it was fantastic. One of my favorite episodes was easily, “Voiced Over” which is the only stand alone episode of the series. Oh, my goodness, the laughs from that episode alone. I’m sure my entire complex heard me, I was laughing so loud.

Aside from the comedy and awesome guest stars, I really enjoyed the story and following Wray, beginning at the con and ending in a full circle moment… another moment Wray never thought possible. Life as a sci-fi actor with a cult following is a never-ending full circle moment and that’s what this web series is all about. It portrays that life with a host of emotions, including anger and grace and of course humor is traced all throughout. It’s really well done and I don’t know if there are plans for a second season but this season stands perfectly on its own so be sure to check this out if this seems like something you’d enjoy!
