My absolute favorite theatre experience was seeing The Sound of Music on Broadway with my mother when I was a child. I remember it like it was yesterday. I loved musicals before that moment though it was this experience that sent me over the edge hills.
Needless to say, I am beyond thrilled to share that The Sound of Music is on touring and maybe coming to a city near you. Up next? Philly!
The new touring production of The Sound of Music, directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien comes to the Academy of Music March 15-20, 2016, following the 50th anniversary of the acclaimed film.
Touring Company: Ben Davis as Captain Georg von Trapp (Broadway’sViolet, A Little Night Music, La Bohème), Ashley Brown as The Mother Abbess (Broadway’s original Mary Poppins, NBC’s The Sound of Music), and Jack O’Brien’s brand new discovery, Kerstin Anderson as Maria Rainer. A current student at Pace University, Ms. Anderson won the coveted role from hundreds who auditioned. This is her first national tour.
The Sound of Music features music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, suggested by The Trapp Family Singers by Maria Augusta Trapp. This new production is directed by Jack O’Brien (Hairspray, The Full Monty, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Coast of Utopia), choreographed by Danny Mefford (Fun Home, The Bridges of Madison County and Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) and music supervision by Andy Einhorn (Bullets Over Broadway, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, Brief Encounter, The Light in the Piazza).
