Once Upon a Time (ABC) – Episode 504 “The Broken Kingdom”
At first, I was excited about the whole Camelot storyline because I’m not necessarily a Camelot/King Arthur fan so I was looking forward to seeing how the show would captivate me. And while it has, I’m still not head over heels in love with this storyline. I will say though that I’ve not grown tired of it yet. So while this episode was solid, I just hope there’s more that packs a punch while we’re in Camelot…which I assume will be until the winter hiatus. What do you think about this Camelot plot?
Brooklyn Nine-Nine (FOX) – Episode 304 “The Oolong Slayer”
“The acoustics are ah-ma-a-zinnng!” – Gina
***
“Capooch?” – The Vulture
“Capooch.” – The entire force.
This episode was easily my favorite episode so far this season. I loved, loved, loved the interaction we got between Jake and Holt as they solved a case in secret, with the third wheel of Gina. Talk about hysterical! Gina really knocked it out of the park this week. I laughed every single time she was on screen.
Best of all, them solving the case, and Jake using his newfound power having won it, got Holt and Gina back, kicking the Vulture out! I love that that’s the thing that Jake asks for. That he’s looking out for his people, always. Beautiful!
Rosa and Amy always made me laugh. I loved the pairs of comedy in this episode. Rosa and Amy. Terry and Boyle. So good. It’s about time we got another episode with a subplot abut Terry’s ridiculous figure. Ha! Everything about this episode rocked. I couldn’t have asked for a more entertaining half hour spent.
The Last Man On Earth (FOX) – Episode 204 “C to the T”
Phil must do one week of solitary confinement but Phil moves it to five weeks to show that he’s a changed man. And he goes back to being named Tandy. The thing is, it’s not so easy getting Phil to fulfill the time for the crime in a manner in which that makes it peaceful for everyone else. Thankfully for Phil, an opportunity arises for him to be a hero which essentially exonerates him from his solitary confinement.
We know that he complete at least five days of his time but because it’s unclear just how much of his solitary confinement he completed at the time of the fire, it makes me wonder if his putting the fire out while everyone was sleeping and saving their lives was the proper thank you from them as Phil did do a lot to them.
Yes, he saved their lives, but I just hope he at least completed the one week of his time. If not, he should have on principle. It’s so difficult to talk about Phil’s progress because his mindset is changing and he is improving but he’s at the point where he goes on step ahead and three steps back so it’s just awkward right now. But I’m rooting for him. We’ve seen enough progress in him to do that.
QUANTICO (ABC) – Episode 104 “Kill”
This episode was all about Alex and Shelby and I loved every single minute of it. There’s nothing in particular that I want to mention this week other than that I’m very excited we got more Shelby this week because I was waiting for that. Waiting for the moment when Shelby would catch up with Alex on the run along with any possible connections she may have with the attack. I wonder how long Shelby will be Alex’s “hostage” and if Alex will be forced to make a decision regarding Shelby that she really doesn’t want to make. Only time will tell!
Gotham (FOX) – Episode 205 “Rise of the Villains: Scarification”
Wow, this was a bore. Considering how fantastic the first four episodes were this season, I was really bummed to find that already, so early in the season, we’ve got a snoozer. I loved that we got more Selina and more fire but overall, this episode just didn’t cut it at all. The blaze did not last long here. The fire went out quick. What did you think about this episode?
MINORITY REPORT (FOX) – Episode 105 “The Present”
Another good episode that had so much potential to be even greater than it was. I loved that this week dealt with Vega possibly being killed with the latest vision from Dash but there was so little action, so little thrill and the stakes rose nicely but the pacing is just too slow overall for this show. It’s like a crime drama with sci-fi elements rather than a sci-fi thriller which is what it should be. Which brings me too…
Minority Report is delivering solid episodes each week but this show could be so much more. The most fascinating and captivating element of this show is the world building and while I enjoy the characters and their dynamics, I’ve decided to stop reviewing this show because it’s just not must watch TV at this moment and I’ve found myself watching the show on the DVR more than watching live. I will continue watching, just not reviewing.
Scorpion (CBS) – Episode 205 “Super Fun Guys”
“You are not part of Scorpion.” – Happy
“But I live here.” – Ray
“So does a possum in the rafters.” – Happy
The Scorpion team on a movie set, undercover trying to stop a nuclear missile? Yes, please. The best part was seeing them in superhero costumes. My least favorite part? Sylvester not being part of the mission. Talk about a missed opportunity! Sylvester spent most of his time at the hospital, at Megan’s bedside, without Walter’s knowing. I get it, I do, but I wasn’t as moved as I should have been.
That said, while this was a fun and somewhat emotionally moving episode, a solid episode, it doesn’t measure up to the previous episodes this season which have been beyond phenomenal.
Finally, I don’t believe for a second that Toby is over advancing his relationship with Happy. But he needs to do whatever it is he needs to do before making the next step, so he can take all the time he needs as far as I’m concerned. Fate will find them.
The Mindy Project (Hulu) – Episode 406 “Road Trip”
In this episode, Danny is accompanied by Morgan of all people on his road trip to California because it’s not safe to do a cross country road trip alone. Cue Morgan getting dizzy at the act of reading a road map. Ha! It gets funnier as the episode goes on but I really did miss the office this week!
GRANDFATHERED (FOX) – Episode 104 “Deadbeat”
“Annelise, I need you to throw me a party.” – Jimmy
“Now? I’m visiting my grandmother’s grave.” – Annelise
“Is she going somewhere?” – Jimmy
When Jimmy misses his granddaughter’s second birthday party which lasts two hours, by two hours, Jimmy sets out to host his own birthday party for her. You know, as one does. Ha! The thing is, a birthday party for a two year old is plenty different from throwing a party for Mariah Carey which Jimmy has indeed done many times in the past. But that’s not even Jimmy’s biggest problem.
We see the effort he goes to be the good person, inviting Sara’s brother…and that backfires! The truth does come to light, thankfully. And that’s just one truth that has. Gerald still hasn’t told Vanessa how he feels about her. I wonder how long this will be strung out. I hope not for long. Perhaps right before the winter hiatus?
All I know is I’m getting antsy now and itching for this to finally come to light so that we can move on and see a different relationship dynamic here. The show has only just begun and it’s not really about their relationship so I completely understand if they choose to go at a snail’s pace here but I hope they don’t because there’s plenty that can be done if they choose to pick it up a beat. There’s plenty either way but one is certainly more interesting than the other. What do you think?
SCREAM QUEENS (FOX) – Episode 106 “Seven Minutes in Hell”
The best part of this episode was when Chanel came back for Zayday and saved her from the red devil when they went underground the sorority house all alone. It obviously wasn’t the smartest decision to do that when they knew there was a killer in the house but this show thrives on its characters making really ridiculous decisions so….
And even though she mainly did the saving for selfish reasons, she came back. And that matters a little. It is quite funny that the other Chanels are making a pact behind her back to outlive her though! Ha! Nobody is safe on the show, clearly, so it’s really difficult to even guess who’s next but do you have any predictions?
The Middle (ABC) – Episode 705 “Land of the Lost”
Oh man, Sue learned quite a lesson here. She was looking forward to spending a day with Brick at college and showing him around but she got distracted by a boy! Logan, to be exact. Oh, Sue. It happens to the best of us. Thankfully, Brick can handle himself for the most part so he wasn’t in danger or anything but it’s disappointing to see that a sister-brother bonding weekend turned into a mess for the both of them. Better luck next time, Sue.
Meanwhile, Axl got evicted so it looks like we’ll see him at home for awhile. I was waiting for that haha. Didn’t expect it to happen the way it did until it did but that’s the most obvious way for it to happen, so that’s perfect. Then there’s Frankie doing all she can to handle the low of Mike’s mid-life crisis. Ha! You can imagine how well that worked out. So, solid episode. Not entirely full of laughs but still funny and relatable and all around great.
Modern Family (ABC) – Episode 705 “The Verdict”
Much more laugh out loud funny episode than what we’ve seen so far. Gloria is excited about jury duty and serving hr country as a new citizen and her excitement gets her kicked out. Oh!
Claire is excited about Take Your Daughter to Work Day until she realizes how nobody at work takes her seriously in her father’s position. Oh! I love that Haley and Alex saw how hard Claire was trying to impress them and reassured Claire that she doesn’t need to do that. Claire is cool in her own way. No need to try to do more than necessary.
It was also great to see Luke looking out for Phil but clearly Phil shouldn’t put that much weight into all that Luke says because Luke was so wrong…oh so wrong ha ha ha. Even more, I love how Manny always plays Luke out! Ha ha! Definitely one of the more entertaining episodes this season. The writers just need to stay on this track and maybe speed it up a bit like the punches rolled in the first few seasons and then you’ve got a really fantastic seventh season.
Black-ish (ABC) – Episode 205 “Churched”
Rainbow: A little more church wouldn’t kill us and it’d be good for the kids.
Dre: Especially for Diane, therapy is not working.
Rainbow: At all.
I love that Rainbow and Dre were schooled by their kids in the power of yes and how very comical it was once they did start saying yes! Rainbow and Dre saying yes to a birthday party. Dre saying yes to church. The aftermath. The excuses digging their holes for them. Oh my goodness. Absolutely hysterical!
I love how they can fit so many different elements into this episode. From whether or not one actually wants to go to the cultural differences between churches. So good. Easily one of the funniest episodes this season. That said, there’s so much more to touch on in church so hopefully this won’t be the last church related episode!
HEROES REBORN (NBC) – Episode 106 “Chapter Six: Game Over”
Loved the directing. Loved Luke’s nonchalant message to his newly estranged wife. I loved his interaction with Malina even more! And that they’re on their way to Tommy. But noooo Quentin dies. At his own sister’s hands! Ruthless! But yesssss Hiro!!!!!! He took HRG to June 13th! Next week, we get to see Angela and Suresh!!!! And what if we get to see Claire?! What if?! This week’s episode is easily one of my favorites this season. So much happened. So much overlay. I loved, loved, loved it! So excited to get to June 13th next week! Fantastic episode! So excited for more, as per usual!
Grey’s Anatomy (ABC) – Episode 12.05 “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner”
If you’re no stranger to the blog, you know that dinner party themed episodes are a true favorite of mine. And wow. This did NOT disappoint. This was the best episode of the season so far and is already in my top five for the entire season.
So much tension. Such perfect balance between the ensemble cast and their many issues. The killing of trust. Of relationships. So much death in more ways than one was represented here. So much life too. So much hurt and pain. But most importantly, so much grace. You could hear a pin drop. If there were one episode I’d want to see as a play, this would be it. This was perfect. Where are these people’s Emmys?
Scandal (ABC) – Episode 505 “You Got Served”
“Why are we talking about this, Cyrus?” – Fitz
“Because I want to. If you don’t want to talk about it, I can leave and you can rehearse your resignation speech.” – Cyrus
***
“I dream your dreams and I sweat your nightmares.” – Cyrus
The aftermath of Liv and Fitz’s affair is going strong and goodness, it’s amazing what people will do to keep up appearances, keep the truth from coming to life, keep alliances, keep their jobs, keep going.
It’s quite funny that Mellie was thrown out of the position she fought so hard to get and was about to use for vengeance road. Hopefully she’ll realize that was a blessing in disguise.
But whoa. Jake has a wife. And whoa. Fitz wants Cyrus to work for him. After all Fitz put him through? Wow. I LOVE the way Cyrus set the President of the United States straight. Fitz takes for granted so much. Sooooo much. So Cyrus told Fitz no, told him he didn’t need this, need him anymore. Fitz acknowledged, genuinely, that he has forgotten to see Cyrus as family. Cyrus is family and he needs him as more than just a political piece. So…Cyrus’s demands? Fire Elizabeth. Among other things. Ha. And only then, Cyrus accepts. Wow. Cyrus is back!!!! The power that Cyrus has in this episode is dynamite! I loved it.
I am really bummed that this is the end of Elizabeth’s road, basically, but Cyrus is back! Elizabeth has tried hard to keep up but she can move over and make room for the pros! I am so excited that Cyrus is back! I am so concerned about Liv’s kidnapping videos being made public. That shouldn’t happen on principle but this is politics, nobody cares about principle. That’s just a word that they use to toss around the court. Anyway, such a fantastic episode! I am so excited for next week!
How To Get Away with Murder (ABC) – Episode 205 “Meet Bonnie”
Bonnie is taking the blame for Sam’s murder so that the kids don’t go down since Asher was going to bring them all down. But Asher decides to do the right thing and testify anyway. Wow. Guilt-ridden, Bonnie is willing to take the blame regardless. Annalise shows Asher a video in which a young Bonnie is taken advantage of by her own father. The ending of this episode though when we find Asher at the police station, ready to make a statement?! Ahhhh so he didn’t tell the first time but he is the second during Annalise’s near death experience? Wooooo.
Annalise tells Nate that Bonnie killed Sam. Wes tells the kids that Rebecca is dead. Levi gets arrested for a bunch of meth that’s in his car which was obviously planted. But by who? The kids follow Wes to Frank;s storage unit where they find not Rebecca’s body but a bunch of money….because Frank was onto them. Wow. So back to square one where no one believes Rebecca is dead. I cannot wait until the episode in which it is revealed to them the truth. Great episode Beyond ready for more!
Haven – Episode 5.17 “Enter Sandman”
Audrey is stuck in a stasis brought on by a trouble. If she marries the trouble in this reality, she’s trapped in his mind and his forever?! Whoa. Talk about stakes! Remember the good old days when she was immune to the troubles? Ha. I had fun following this story line even if at times, Emily’s acting bothered me as it just wasn’t all that believable.
Meanwhile, Duke has found one person who remembers Haven and the troubles. Seth. Just barely. One down? Oh so many to go. Like last week, Duke’s story line was the one I was more interested in though this week it was because I feel like I’ve seen the story line Audrey was in this week too many times before in general so that on top of the so-so acting just didn’t top it off this week. But I did enjoy this episode and loved the contrast in story lines when it comes to the state of remembering. Great job there!
But really, we’re only a few episodes away from this show up? I haven’t a clue!
Z Nation (Syfy) – Episode 207 “Down the Mississippi”
The gang is finally in the South. Took long enough. Mississippi. It’s great that we’re seeing a different location. Not so great that they got in a boat and ran into zombies in the water, split up, and then 10k was separated from the pack?! Nooo!!
I loved that Doc was the one who was holding out to find 10k. I’m glad the writers knew not to get rid of 10k. I’m prepared to lose him in the future but not in the near future or right now so this was great, to see the possibility but it not actually come into fruition. Great episode! I’m missing Citizen Z though! Anybody else?
