Note: Last Week’s Recap
An all new Face Off airs tonight! While we wait, here’s what I thought of last week’s episode!
Host McKenzie Westmore met the artists at the Park for their next Focus Challenge (reminder: this is a ten hour challenge). The Focus was Shakespeare, in particular, noting that all of the parts were played by men back in the day. So they had to transform a male model into a Shakespeare leading lady! Gender swap makeup! Ve Neil, Face Off judge and the genius behind transforming Robin Williams into Mrs. Doubtfire was on hand for this challenge. They each got to pick their own scroll where the inspiration for their individual challenge would be written inside…so it was basically random.
Nora received Sycorax from The Tempest, Scott got Cleopatra from The Tragedy of Antony and Cleopatra, Evan got Hecate from The Tragedy of Macbeth, King of Scotland, Meg got Queen Mab of Romeo and Juliet, Jordan got Lady Macbeth of The Tragedy of Macbeth, King of Scotland, Kevon got Joan la Pucelle from The First Part of King Henry the Sixth, Stevie got Hippolyta of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Ben got Titania of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Jasmine got Hermione of The Winter’s Tale, and Ricky got Ophelia of The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark.
Jasmine, Meg, and Ricky seemed to be the most excited about this challenge so that’s who I was rooting for. Nora seemed to be having the most trouble getting a solid vision for her creation together and I was pulling for her too because I didn’t want this to set the tone for the rest of the episode – it’s much too early to see her eliminated! I think it’s safe to say Face Off mentor, Michael Westmore was a godsend to her this week! I also think it’s really cool that Ben did a gender swap on himself for his Face Off audition! He didn’t really give me much to think about in this challenge beforehand but after finding this out, I was also looking forward to his creation.
On the reveal stage, Scott, Nora, Jordan, and Meg were my favorites. The first three of these were safe along with Kevon, Ben, and Jasmine. Kevon did great except the lip area was off to me. I could see where Ben, Evan, and Ricky were going but these weren’t my absolute favorite looks either. Because of this, it didn’t surprise me that the judges’ bottom looks were Ricky and Evan (but clearly Ben knew enough to stay out of the bottom)! The artist eliminated was Ricky. He’s got what it takes to keep going so I’m sure this isn’t the last we’ll see of his work.
The judges’ top looks were Stevie and Meg with Meg taking the win! Yay, Meg! Huge congrats to Meg, fellow Jersey girl!!! She’s been in the bottom two quite a bit lately so this was quite a comeback! What a win! Major congrats, Meg and I’m sure this won’t be the last!
