Note: Last Week’s Recap

It’s the 100th episode of Face Off! My how time flies! It feels like yesterday I was watching the series premiere and soon enough at the Syfy Press Tour before season two premiered! I have enjoyed the 100 episodes thus far and hope there are many more to come! Major congratulations on this huge accomplishment! This has been the hardest working reality competition series from day one so I am overjoyed to see everyone involved in this show be able to say that they’ve been involved with a long lasting, ever growing in success show. Congrats on this milestone!

Host McKenzie Westmore met the artists at the Pasadena Mausoleum to deliver the spotlight challenge for the big 100th episode. The challenge? Turn real-life couples into whimsical undead duos, ready to exchange vows in front of loved ones on the reveal stage!

The teams? They got to choose their teams this time! Sweet. The teams were Jasmine and Ben, Meg and Nora, Ricky and Jordan, Missy and Jason, Stevie and Scott, Brittany and Libby, & Evan and Kevon. Based on the teams alone, I was most excited for Jasmine and Ben, Meg and Nora, Missy and Jason, & Stevie and Scott’s designs. Each team got a brief video from their engaged couple for inspiration. Cats. Christmas. Quite a few ideas floating around after the videos. I loved how diverse the couples were not just in ethnicity but in sexuality. Meg and Nora chose the one and only gay couple which meant a lot to Nora since she herself is lesbian. Syfy has always embraced diversity so it was so great to see this continue here.

Anyone else think this challenge would’ve been really awesome for season seven (which was life and death themed)?

In the lab, series mentor, Michael Westmore gave most of the contestants hope but Stevia and Scott were a little worried given the direction they were given by Westmore. Did they have it in them to take Westmore’s advice and really pull it off? Meanwhile, Kevon seemed to be having a bit of trouble in the lab, almost letting his nerves get the best of him when there was a slight curve. Though everyone was freaking out come last looks. Especially Nora who was really concerned about getting the look done in time. Well…

Come time for the reveal stage, the bottom looks were Jason and Missy & Meg and Nora. Of these, I’m hoping Jason gets eliminated only because I’ve connected with all of the girls and don’t want to see one of them go yet. There was no elimination in this episode but we will be seeing the elimination portion happen next week. I like that they let the “reception” play out instead of being a Debbie Downer immediately after with an elimination.

My favorite looks came from Jason and Missy, Scott and Stevie, & Brittany and Libby with a notable mention to Ben and Jasmine. As it turns out, one of my favorite looks was a bottom look and my notable mention was the winning look! The judges’ top looks were Ricky and Jordan & Ben and Jasmine with the latter team winning and Jasmine taking the title of the big win of the week. Congrats, Jasmine! Well deserved! The only reason the winning team was a notable mention for me rather than a favorite look period is because I connected way more with the bride rather than both the bride and groom. I liked the groom just not as equally as I did the other couples. But the right team came out on top, they nailed whimsy.

Finally, McKenzie Westmore, who recently became an ordained minster, performed the marriage ceremony and while I have my own feelings about people becoming ordained ministers just so they can marry people…not actually respecting and honoring the sanctity of the actual process in becoming and being a legit minister who is truly committed to the church…for entertainment purposes, I sat back and pretended I had a bowl of popcorn in front of me, ready to watch this Hollywood group wedding ceremony. So would you A) Dress unconventionally for your marriage and/or B) Have a group wedding? For me, yes and no. Anyway, I am SO pumped for next week’s episode as it deals with classic literature and horror. Classic literature for the win! So excited!
