Note: Last Week’s Recap

In week two of Face Off, host, McKenzie Westmore met the artists at the Port of Long Beach aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter U.S.S. George Cobb to tell them their next spotlight challenge. A Siren challenge!!! They had to work in randomly assigned teams of two to create their own deadly siren using a deadly sea creature as inspiration for their creation. Sirens! Yes. Yes. Yes!!!

Meg and Kevon got Textile Cone Snail, Jasmine and Jordan got the Yellow Boxfish, Ricky and Ben chose the Blue Seaslug, Stevie and Scott picked the Blue Ringed Octopus, Missy and Libby got the Striped Surgeonfish, Evan and Jason got the Peacock Mantis Shrimp, Nora and Brittany took on the challenge of the Flabellina Nudibranch, & finally, Sidney and Omar picked the Portuguese Man O’War.

Based on the design phase, I was most anticipating the creations of Evan and Jason, Nora and Brittany, Sidney and Omar, and Jasmine and Jordan. Series mentor, Michael Westmore had a few teams concerned, especially Meg and Kevon but for the most part, there was overall really positive feedback.

Come time for the reveal stage… McKenzie informed the artists that TWO of them would be eliminated this week. So much for the safety of last week. Ha. Trickery! So…when it comes to my favorite looks…Jordan and Jasmine aced it in my opinion. Ricky and Ben also made an absolutely beautiful creation. Stevie and Scott also nailed it. They were all safe. I also loved Nora and Brittany as well as Meg and Kevon; these two teams were the top looks from the judges with the latter being the winning team and Meg being the sole winner. All that worrying in the lab, Meg and it turns out you didn’t have to worry about it at all. So it goes. Her drive for perfection and her humility is awe inspiring. Go, Meg! Jersey represent!

Now given they were highly anticipated from me in the beginning, I expected way more from Evan and Jason. Prime example of what’s inside someone’s head not translating well outside of that. Ugh. As a writer, I feel your pain and am devastated with you but I am just so happy that you guys were not in danger this week. The judges saw enough in this creation to keep them and I cannot wait to see more from them. The judges’ bottom looks were Sidney and Omar & Missy and Libby with Omar and Sidney being eliminated. I never connected with these two so it didn’t really matter to me but ask me how I feel about elimination in 2-3 more weeks and I will be a bundle of nerves.
