In this sequel to the bestselling fantasy thriller, Angelfall, the survivors of the angel apocalypse begin to scrape back together what’s left of the modern world.

When a group of people capture Penryn’s sister Paige, thinking she’s a monster, the situation ends in a massacre. Paige disappears. Humans are terrified. Mom is heartbroken.

Penryn drives through the streets of San Francisco looking for Paige. Why are the streets so empty? Where is everybody? Her search leads her into the heart of the angels’ secret plans where she catches a glimpse of their motivations, and learns the horrifying extent to which the angels are willing to go.

Meanwhile, Raffe hunts for his wings. Without them, he can’t rejoin the angels, can’t take his rightful place as one of their leaders. When faced with recapturing his wings or helping Penryn survive, which will he choose?

I really enjoyed the first book in the Penryn & the End of Days trilogy, Angelfall (review here). With the recent release of the final book in the series, End of Days, I thought it was time to finally read the sequel!

I love that World After begins right where Angelfall ends. I was really hoping for that so that instant reward was very much appreciated. I loved that there was even more action than in the first. I loved that the emotional resonance remained and it goes without saying that the scenes in which both Penryn and Raffe were present were my favorite. Though those were few and I wanted more Raffe. The other characters were equally important to the story and really came to life, like in the first book which I absolutely loved. Their perspectives really gave such an incredible, unforgettable view of this world. This book wouldn’t be the same without each and every single one of the minor characters. Such standout characters.

As far as the story goes… once again, I thought I had an idea of where the story was going and it did not go that way at all. Ha! But I respect Ee’s direction and enjoyed the ride I was taken on. That said, I can’t say that I was as captivated as I was compared to reading the first book in the trilogy. I flew threw Angelfall and I read World After in a handful of sittings. There was a point where I felt it dragged a bit and I struggled to get through that but other than that, I think this was a good sequel and anyone who enjoyed Angelfall should continue reading the series! I’m very curious as to where the final book in the series goes as this doesn’t really end on a cliffhanger but there’s still a threat out there in the world, especially with what Penryn conquers in the end. I can’t wait to start the third!

Favorite Line:
Even the end of the world can’t keep us from wanting to belong. I guess.
