Big Brother 17 First Impressions

It’s that time of year again! BIG BROTHER IS HERE!!!!

I am so, so, so pumped for this show to premiere this week! TOMORROW! Oh. My. God. If you don’t know, I started watching Big Brother in season 8 and have been a huge fan ever since. In the last few years I finally caved and got the live feeds and it’s the same this year!

As per usual before the premiere, the live feeds introduced the houseguests with one on one interviews conducted by Big Brother alumni, Jeff Schroeder. Also as per usual, after these one on one press junket interviews and before the premiere, I have my first impressions. After watching the live feed interviews and the Big Brother Network interviews, I’ve gathered my thoughts. If you’re new to Big Brother, I break down the game here. Can’t wait to see how my opinions on the HGs change once the show premieres and basically every week until the finale! Okay, here we go!

John – Johnny Mack is from Scranton, PA?! Where are my The Office fans?! Ha! I mean, he sounds like Michael Scott, loud as he can be. This is going to be one interesting season with him here. Oh, man. Part of his strategy is not letting the HGs know that he’s a big fan of the show, keeping his knowledge of the game under wraps. Good one! Anyway, I have a feeling I’m either going to love this guy or find him so unbelievably annoying. His laugh already annoys me. Even though it amuses me too, haha. Anyway, I think he can make it pretty far in the game.

Vanessa – Vegas houseguests never disappoint. She is a world series poker player, is around gamblers all of the time, and studied game theory at Duke University not to mention, she’s a big fan of the show so ummm… I’d say she’s got this game in the bag. Will she be the best female player this season? Only time will tell. She can be the best player but she better not win since word on the blogosphere is that she’s a multimillionaire because of her poker playing. So. Give

Jace – Jace seems like he will be very fun to watch this summer as he’s very excited to play the game. He said he would rather be hated and win the game than be nice and lose. My kind of player! I can’t wait to see him play!

Da’Vonne – Oh my God! Another poker player in the house! We’ve got TWO professional poker players in the house who are both big fans of the show. She’s a poker dealer and player. This could get very interesting. She also has a very fun, likable quality about her so I’m rooting for her at this point in time. Although I’m worried about her plan to tell people that she’s a schoolteacher. Has she ever been a schoolteacher? There’s a lot more than goes into it than what people think so I hope she’s prepared to answer any teaching questions lol. Anyway, she and Jace have a similar goal to have a small true alliance that no one would suspect so maybe they will form an alliance with each other? Who knows!

Liz – She looks like she’ll be a lot of fun but also bring a lot of drama? She also seems really reasonable. Ugh. I’m all over the place with this one. Not sure what to think. But she is excited to win all of the competitions so I think it’s safe to say that she’s going to be a big part of this season.

Steve – I’m really interested in seeing if his low key strategy will make him look like a floater but he is a super fan so I can’t wait to see how he plays it!

Clay – The cutie of the season is here. The only problem? He’d rather be liked by America than win the game. Lame. I would say let’s see how far he gets, I am deep down always rooting for the good guy to win but umm with his good looks, I think he’ll get pretty far either way. Also, it’s important to mention that he’s a new fan to the show in that he’s watched like 8 seasons in a recent three month span. So…not a viewer of all of the seasons, no clue about what people on the live feeds see, the online fandom, etc… Always interesting to see how the newbie Big Brother fans play.

James – James looks like a lot of fun. I think he can play this game really well and get far or play this game really well and get booted. Or be way in over his head. It’s a toss up. He does have a background in the military and corrections so this could be the next Derrick? I don’t think so but he certainly has the skills to get far.

Shelli – Shelli seems fun but I didn’t really connect with her and don’t see her winning the game, so… not much to say here. She is the oldest HG this season at 33 years old so we’ve got quite a young cast all across the board this season. Interesting!

Austin – I think this weirdo Austin is going to rock this game and I can’t wait to see how far he gets. I think his alter ego of Judas is hysterical since when it comes down to it, it’s Austin who is making the decisions and the one that everyone will blame, not his alter ego, Judas hahaha but anyway, can’t wait to see his game play. Also, kudos for having a Master’s degree in Medieval Romance Literature!

Audrey – Audrey seems like she is going to bring a lot of great game play as a super fan and I have a feeling I’m going to really love her. She’s also the first transgender houseguest on the show so I hope that after she tells the HGs this tidbit, she won’t face extreme prejudice and even if any HG in the house does disagree with her decision to transition, they are at least respectful and tolerant enough where the vibe of the house is comfortable for everyone.

Becky – She’s a ball of fun but it looks like she’s a bit of a firecracker when she gets upset so I am very interested in seeing what the dynamic will be with her and the other girls, especially Audrey as the two have very strong, distinct personalities.

Meg – Meg seems extremely likable and probably will be a favorite among America in that regards which at the moment, I don’t mind at all. But how well can she play the game? Too much too soon? Steady? Only time will tell. She doesn’t plan on winning the first HoH and she seems to know the game really well so it will be very interesting to see how far she gets.

Jason – Jason is the token gay guy of the season. Not surprisingly, I already love him. His accent will no doubt get some past BB comparisons but it only adds to his entertaining image so I can’t wait to listen to this super fan all summer! He is clearly very knowledgable about the game and ready to play, not to mention his favorite players of the game are mine too, so if there’s anyone’s game I am most excited to see, it’s his.

The two night premiere of Big Brother 17 begins Wednesday, June 24th at 8/7c on CBS!
