Zedekiah Harrow is Alyona Miller’s other half—the Z to her A, her rock in the chaotic, competitive world of professional ballet. He’s the one person who can talk her anxiety away, the one person she knows will never judge her. That she’s starting to think about him as more than a best friend is something new entirely.

Aly is Zed’s everything, but their “just friends” label is beginning to chafe. When the company embarks on a month-long European tour, the magic of Amsterdam and a nearly indecent pas de deux routine combine, making their chemistry—both on and off the stage—impossible to ignore.

But just as Aly and Zed begin to see what everyone else already knows, just when they’ve taken the leap from friends to lovers, the unthinkable happens. And in the blink of an eye, Aly and Zed are tossed back to the beginning…

Turning Pointe is a fantastic prequel novella to Katherine Locke’s debut, Second Position. If you want to know how a prequel novella done right looks, here is a fine example.

I love that this story is told between both Aly and Zed’s POVs. I loved the little moments between the two and among each of them that meant so much. Like when Aly and Zed were in an enclosed space on an airplane, both of them trying to figure out what’s best for them. The relationship development was wonderful. Emotionally gripping.

Our fingers fight wars with each other, and the electricity between our eyes could light cities.

I also really loved how much of a throwback this was personally to my dancing days and the hardships of that life. The passion, the precision, the commitment, the drive that is required to nail this profession. Oh, man.

Being tired feels a lot like being alive.

I really enjoyed the pacing of this prequel, bravo for acing that! I also loved the tone which is a great balance of many things (this story made me laugh out loud a few times!) as well as the prose which was beautiful. I don’t typically read contemporary and romance but this captivated me from page one. I am so glad I took a chance on this. I am excited to read Second Position now!
