The heart-pounding sequel to the instant New York Times bestseller, Unbreakable, by New York Times bestselling Beautiful Creatures co-author Kami Garcia.
He is here… and he could be anyone.
Kennedy Waters lives in a world where vengeance spirits kill, ghosts keep secrets, and a demon walks among us–a demon she accidentally set free.
Now Kennedy and the other Legion members–Alara, Priest, Lukas, and Jared–have to hunt him down. As they learn more about the history of the Legion and the Illuminati, Kennedy realizes that the greatest mystery of all does not belong to any secret order, but to her own family. With the clock ticking and the life of someone she loves hanging in the balance, Kennedy has to ask the question she fears most: what is it about her past that has left her Unmarked?
I realize that ARCs are not the same as the finished copy of a book and that this review is being written quite some time after the release so this review is more of an overall view of the sequel to Unbreakable which I really enjoyed…so I am very happy to say that I enjoyed this.
I still feel as though this read like a YA episode of Supernatural but I loved that it got deeper than the first book in the series. It dealt a lot with death in ways we may not have seen before including the death of trust and relationships. I loved the line, “Some bones should stay buried.” So great. I love that the main characters’ loyalties were tested like never before and I really enjoyed where Kennedy and Jared were left at the end of the book… in very troubling places is all I’ll say.
Elle and learning more about Kennedy’s parents was so much fun and so intriguing. Heartbreaking to see but the paths of her parents wasn’t just hard, it was super dark. The secrets. The betrayal. I don’t want to go into detail but I really did appreciate the character development here. I think the line Never underestimate what an animal will do to free itself from a cage really spoke to the heart of this sequel.
The action in this book was great. As was the attention to detail and giving us even more world building. I really liked the detail of things in museums being haunted. A small detail but very memorable. The pacing of this story was on point. I really like where this story started and where it ended and am anticipating the third book in the series whenever it releases as I believe the third book has been delayed. Regardless, looking forward to the conclusion because the story definitely is not set up to end where it did. 🙂 Solid sequel! If you enjoyed Unbreakable, you will enjoy Unmarked! Don’t wait so long to read the sequel like I did. You can zoom through this, easy! So get to it! 🙂
