In today’s edition of The Vine, a spin off of the Sunday Branch feature, my notes refer to John 2 (Amplified Version).

John 1
Currently Listening To:
“If We’re Honest” by Francesca Battistelli
Verse 3 Notes:
Mary went to Jesus 1) Because He’s Jesus & she knew what He could do and 2) He’s her son & Joseph wasn’t there so she looked to the man of her household.
Verse 4 Notes:
Jesus says “My hour/time has not yet come” and variations of this many, many times before He is betrayed and crucified.
Verse 5 Notes:
Mary pulled rank as dear ol’ Mom and ignored what Jesus said in Verse 4, telling the servants to listen to whatever Jesus says to do…because she knew He could and would do something. He can and He will.
Verse 10 Notes:
Jesus turning water into wine shows that Jesus turns us into the best we can be when we flow according to His word. Are you willing to flow according to His word or will you later cry out, “Crucify him?” as the Jews, both those who could not see Jesus when He was standing before them and those who went with the flow because of fear (fear of being a “Jesus freak,” a “sinner,” a “hypocrite,” etc…) did?
Also, note that the disciples believed in Him, not in the wine.
Verse 11 Notes:
Jesus turning water into wine was one of the first miracles. Note that Water —> Wine is parallel to Old Testament —> New Testament.
Verse 15 Notes:
Jesus was getting Jersey on them, tossing trays in the air and what not! Ha ha. He was upset that the people (the Jews who were His chosen people but didn’t even recognize Him when He was standing before them) were defiling the temple of God.
Verse 19 Notes:
Jesus beats them to the punch and basically says to them to do what they were going to do since He will succeed anyway. Foreshadowing his death and resurrection.
Verse 24 Notes:
Jesus didn’t trust the people. He knew their hearts. He knew they’d betray him. Do you have the right motives? Are you looking to God? Do you want to know God and not just see what He can do but know who He is? Do you want to see what you want to see or do you want to see God? Do you want to face the truth? Live in truth?
Note: Jeremiah 17:9
The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful, a puzzle that no one can figure out. But I, God, search the heart and examine the mind. I get to the heart of the human. I get to the root of things. I treat them as they really are, not as they pretend to be.
Tomorrow…John 3.
