Winston graduates from the Police Academy this week! That brings for one of the most hilarious openings of the season. Code Jewish. Code Jewish. And I didn’t even get to the graduation ceremony. But I won’t spoil that for you. Just don’t take a sip of your drink in the first few minutes of the show because you will spit it out in a fit of laughter. The gun though! Ha. That’s all I’m saying. I was anticipating what the writers would do when Winston graduated and am so happy to see that they went beyond what I was hoping for. Wonderful job!
So after the ceremony, they meet Winston’s training officer (guest star Nasim Pedrad, MULANEY) and Nick and Coach are not impressed. Because she’s a tiny woman. Ha. What a way for New Girl to return… with an episode showing everybody who’s boss! Women. Nick and Coach learn their lesson the hard way, as one does when one underestimates a woman. Winston’s training officer leads Nick and Coach in a direction I wasn’t expecting but makes complete sense only something tells me this won’t be a recurring setting and I love where she left these two so I’m kind of bummed about that.
“Oh, hello, Shark. I am woman, the smartest species of them all.” – Jess
Meanwhile, Jess is concerned about the construction noise outside of the loft and catches a councilwoman (guest star Zoe Lister Jones, “Friends With Better Lives”) in the crowd after the ceremony. (Side note: If you haven’t seen Zoe Lister Jones in the movie, Arranged, Netflix that immediately!) Schmidt follows after Jess and the two begin to play out their own separate plans to get the councilwoman to resolve the construction issue. Only Jess finds out sooner than Schmidt does that Schmidt got played by the one they were both trying to handle. I love that Schmidt always thinks that he’s the master at schemes and trickery when really he will always only be the Schmidt of schemes and trickery. And in all of that…surprise! You’ll have to watch to find out what happens next and see how the duping continues!
All I’ll say is that this episode proves one of the many reasons why Jess is so much fun to watch. When she’s determined to get something done, she does all of that she can to achieve it, no matter the foolery that steps in her way and she doesn’t give up. Also, it was exciting getting to see Zoe Lister Jones in a comedy as I know she’s done more comedy in recent years but I’m still more familiar with her dramatic work. So, overall? This episode delivered. The Bollywood burn. The Office UK burn. And so much more. Don’t miss tomorrow night’s return of New Girl which will have you rolling with laughter! Tuesday at 9/8c. Be there.
