TV Talk: Face Off Episode 7.11 “Teacher’s Pets”

This week’s spotlight challenge on Face Off was to create a fantasy creature version of a high school student – pretty cool! – choosing one of these four (goblin, minotaur, cyclops, faun) as the basis for their creation – even more exciting! Not only that, each artist was given a clique. I wish there had been more fantasy creatures to choose from but at the same time, it was kind of cool to see these creatures represented in more than one clique. So, they cleaned up nicely here. So how did the final seven fair before going into the lab?

Drew chose faun and ended up with the emo clique. Stella picked minotaur and also got the emo clique. Sasha chose cyclops and got the cheerleader clique. Rachael picked faun and got the cheerleader clique as well. Dina went for the goblin and got the nerd clique. Cig took on minotaur and like Dina, got the nerd clique. Finally, George settled on the goblin and got the jocks clique.

In the lab, after Michael Westmore came in for a visit and gave his advice, Sasha was conflicted with how best to portray the cyclops and George was also struggling with what to do. When it came down to stand in front of the judges, Sasha finally realized that she should have done quite a bit differently. Even though her final look didn’t match the challenge as best it could, it was gorgeous. As for George? For what he was trying to achieve, I understood it but still, the execution just wasn’t on par with what the judges want. So.

Top and bottom looks? The judges thought the best were Drew and Cig. My favorites were Drew and Dina. Drew’s and Dina’s were fan-freaking-tastic. I totally got it and loved it. I thought Cig’s looked more like a professor than a student but I still absolutely loved it. The winner this week was Drew, as well as it should have been! Congrats, Drew!

The judges thought the bottom looks were Rachael and George. Rachael definitely made an evil cheerleader but she didn’t include enough faun (which I think would have made her a top look) and because of that, she fell to the bottom. And George, well, we’ve already talked about George. But at least he listened to the challenge and really gave it. Rachael holding back sent her home and boy oh boy, it’s really sad to see her go but c’mon, it’s nearing the final five. Go all the way or go home. Who was your favorite look this week?
