The animated comedy Bob’s Burgers returns for a third season. The series follows the ups and downs of Bob (H. Jon Benjamin), who run’s Bob’s Burgers with the help of his wife and their three kids. Bob has big ideas about burgers, but his family falls short on service and sophistication. Despite the greasy counters, lousy location and dearth of customers, Bob and his family are determined to make ever “Grand Re-Re-Re-Opening” a success.
Last year when my younger sister told me that she started watching Bob’s Burgers on Netflix and loved it, I thought I should give the show a shot but I still wasn’t in a rush to check it out. After all, I watch a lot of TV and can’t get to everything. But then one day I sat down when she was watching the show and found it to be pretty funny. Funny enough to sit down and watch more than one episode. I’ve seen a handful of episodes from the first season and now, the entire third season. Season one was funny but season three is better. Now I can’t wait to go back and watch all of the episodes that I’ve missed.
Like my sister said while we were watching the season three DVD, this show is so incredibly immature and inappropriate but that’s what makes it so hysterical. The things that come out of everyone’s mouths (no character left behind here) are completely absurd. And I would say the sexual references but sometimes it’s so direct, it’s not even a reference…these are so blatant and crude, I am so really shocked it made it on primetime television. That said, there aren’t many shows that make me laugh out loud but this is one of them. Also, I love puns and this show has oh so many. So that’s a plus! As if this show needed one.
“I’m a liar, not a fighter!”
Some of my favorites moments involve biker gangs, jobs outside of the family business, a nude beach, a science project, the holidays, and the more than one musical numbers throughout the season. Sure wasn’t expecting that! But I loved it every time. One of my favorite moments though is easily when Tina learns how to drive in an empty parking lot and by empty I mean there’s one other car in the lot, I repeat, one other car in the lot – that she hits! Also, the episode in which mother daughter bonding ends in a dangerous laser tag match.
“Get all your farts out now…”
The Belcher family can never say that their lives are boring because they get into quite a lot! Go writers for not only creating awesome characters but equally entertaining scenarios for these characters in each and every episode. But as for the characters… Bob and Linda are totally oblivious to the majority of the shenanigans their children get into. But boy are they loving and determined and try, bless their hearts.
The kids… the kids… sure, Gene and Tina are worth mentioning. Tina is the bookworm, the smart one but also and not surprisingly, the weird one. Gene has his moments but is mostly overshadowed by Louise. Tina is probably my favorite child but Louise is easily my favorite character of this entire show. Louise is so demanding and doesn’t think anything of it. She’s fearless. She’s unapologetic and fierce! She’s the best. I love her. Even when we should most definitely not be rooting for her I am because I just want to see how she’ll handle herself before getting to the other side. Anyway, I could talk about Louise all day so it’s best I just say if you want to be highly entertained with characters you’ll fall in love with immediately and stories that will take you for quite a ride, tune into Bob’s Burgers. It’s the show you didn’t know you need in your life for the ultimate laughs.
