January Notes
* I attempted my first read-a-thon of the year and ended up getting the stomach flu on day 2 which knocked me out for 5 days and another handful of days to recover. Needless to say, this read-a-thon was unsuccessful. Looking forward to the next one!
* I listed my top ten most anticipated 2014 book debuts here.
* I wrote a post about how Netflix for Books is not always equivalent to the library here and I talked about fandoms here.

My Insane Book & Movie Challenge Update #1
If you missed my big announcement on January 1st where I shared my crazy plan to read 347 books and continue to annihilate my movie watch list this year, you can read all about it here. Below is my first monthly update!

I read two January 2014 releases, one novella, a mix of YA and celebrity memoirs, and… not enough books to stay on track. Not even half of the books I had planned to read this month! While I did catch the stomach flu, which knocked me out for a little over week, I have no excuse for the last two weeks of the month. So I am looking forward to getting back on track next month. My goal is way too big to be behind already.

Onward!

My favorite read of the month was… it’s a tie between Balancing It All: My Story of Juggling Priorities and Purpose by Candace Cameron Bure and Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir by Kathy Griffin.

Movies

Watched in January 2014
The World’s End
The Wolverine
Men in Black 3
Star Trek: Into Darkness
Planet of the Apes

Red Dawn (Currently Streaming on Netflix)
The Square (Documentary is Currently Streaming on Netflix)

My favorite movie this month was The World’s End.
My least favorite movie this month was Planet of the Apes.

I don’t have many backlist titles on my watch list so I am not being as strict with my movie viewing habits. You’ll notice that Planet of the Apes isn’t in the Netflix screenshot because it came on I believe it was FX one day and I DVRed it but when I sat down to watch it, I couldn’t even make it half way through the movie. It was so bad. I simply couldn’t take anything in that movie seriously. You may also notice that I had Star Trek for a long time before actually watching it. That’s because the day that it arrived, I was still recovering from the stomach flu. It took awhile to recover. Once I did, I caught up on TV and after that, I simply wasn’t in the mood to watch the movie…until I finally was. I’m not giving screen shots of my streaming queue because that’s mostly television and I want to save my television screen shots for my television challenge next year. So. Keep waiting.

Is there anything else I should include in these monthly updates? Let me know!

Until next month, happy reading and viewing!
