Jess (Golden Globe Award-nominee Zooey Deschanel) has twenty minutes to decide if she should give-up teaching and take a new job, prompting the gang to recall how they all landed in their current professions.
Even though the majority of this episode consists of flashbacks, it works. We love these characters so much, it’s a treat to want to see them outside of the present. Thankfully, the flashbacks actually do what they are supposed to do – giving us just the right amount of backstory we need in an entertaining way and leaving us wanting more. Jess and CeCe meeting in the library? Adorable! I mustn’t spoil too much for you though!
“Let me get a uh, let me get a uh…” – Winston
Why the flashbacks? Jess has a big career decision to make so naturally, her roommates slam her with what they believe to be advice about life changing decisions while walking down memory lane. The pride that comes out of each of them in a situation like this is definitely something to see. Schmidt even goes so far as to say that Nick’s job could be done by a vending machine! Talk about a dig! Winston’s delusion about his “decision” to quit basketball is even more hysterical. Everything that is supposed to go right in this episode goes right, including the epic background music.
It was great to get the characters out of the apartment and in the bar talking about something other than their relationships. It was great seeing everyone’s best interests for one of their own not backfire. This was a calm and collected yet wildly hilarious episode that you won’t want to miss. The writing, delivery, and comedic timing is still on point and as sharp as ever. God bless this cast and crew. Their hard work pays off in a big way each and every week and the return of New Girl will not disappoint so make sure to watch tonight or set your DVR!
