YouTube Profile Series: Catriona from Little Book Owl (#8)

The fall season of the YouTube Profile Series continues, this week with Catriona from Little Book Owl! This feature puts the spotlight on my favorite YouTubers who will answer questions created from the word, YouTuber.

Check it out below!

Your best year as a YouTuber?
Most definitely 2013. I started making videos back in 2006, on various channels, but was never happy with what I was producing. This year, however, I am really happy with my videos and the growth of my channel.

One of the greatest lessons you’ve learned from other YouTubers?
Talk about what YOU are passionate about. Make videos that really interest you and excite YOU. Producing material based on what you THINK you should make, or will help you gain “fame” is the wrong way to go – not only will your audience see right through you, but you won’t be attracting the people you really want to watch your videos – the people who you can really relate to and share mutual interests and passions with! Being able to building these connections and relationships with others is what makes the whole experience so much more rewarding.

Underrated: What’s the one video you wish had more views or brought more of a discussion?
My Love Triangles discussion. It probably isn’t my best video and I thought of other points I could have mentioned after publishing it, but it’s a subject I have mixed feelings for. I would have like to see a little more discussion about what makes a good love triangle in a book, and what are big turn-offs for readers.

Time you doubted a video idea and shouldn’t have OR a time you doubted a video idea and are happy you didn’t do it.
My WHAT MAKES A ‘GOOD’ BOOKTUBER? video. I was so anxious that people would think I was acting like a know-it-all and that I thought was the best booktuber ever. I’m not and I never will be, and I didn’t want people to get the impression I thought otherwise. Overall, I think the response was a lot more positive than I could have hoped. So many people have commented with really helpful tips for myself, and other booktubers both new and old. It has also been wonderful reading through the comments and seeing so many people finally plucking up enough courage from my video and finding it useful and inspirational!

Using one word, describe why September Book Haul [Collective] is the video you are most proud of.
FIRST! I’m gonna be a cheat and expand on my reasoning here. It is probably one of my worst videos simply because it was the first I made, that quick introduction I uploaded first, I actually filmed after the haul. The reason I am so proud of it though, is because it was the very first video I filmed. I put so much effort into writing a script, summing up the books in my own words and editing it.

Be Yourself Tag: What are 3 books that taught you the most about yourself?
This is a hard question, as the reason I read is to escape myself, my life and the world around me. I don’t usually like to dwell. However, I think the books that really put across a strong message or made me think about a certain aspect of myself were The Bronze Horseman and Pushing the Limits.

Expand: If you were expanding your brand which route would you go, TV (reality or talk show) or radio/podcast and why?
I love being in front of a camera, but I don’t have an audience I can see just beyond the lens – when it’s people I don’t know it makes me even more anxious, so I would say radio/podcast! It would also make it easier to pay attention to what I am supposed to be saying, as I stumble over my words a lot. Looking at a script or notes would probably save me a bunch of humiliation.

Road Show: If you went on tour for a live YouTube event, who would be your musical opening act?
PAINT! The amazing Jon Cozart is so talented and his songs about Disney princesses or Hogwarts would be the perfect for my tour! The two things I love the most!
