Thinking Schmidt has chosen to be with Cece, Jess and Nick invite him to go on a double date with them. Nick is caught between loyalty to his friend and loyalty to his girlfriend when he finds out a shocking secret. Meanwhile, Winston promises to get the foursome a table at an ultra-exclusive restaurant that doesn’t take reservations.
This double date themed episode of New Girl is just as hysterical as you imagine it will be. The comedy, the drama, it all reaches a high. One secret and a few lies are told…hearts are broken…and even Winston, the cat lady finds himself in a bind. This all leads to Schmidt making a vow to a certain couple that brings for one of the most hilarious episode endings this show has seen. Ah, couples.
Nick: I was there for you when you fell of the deck at Chester’s graduation…and I’m here for you now.
But first, we start with Winston who always brings the laughs! If I haven’t said it before, he’s my favorite of this crazy bunch. Winston defending his single status was perhaps the most hysterical bit I have seen so far this season – and this season has just begun but is already so strong and shows no signs of slowing down. I love it for so many reasons that overlap each other in the oddest of places. It’s so me but it’s not at the same time and it’s equally so crazy and ridiculous, laughing is the most natural thing to do while watching the scene. Killer opening there. I can’t mention all of that without pointing out how much I laughed when Winston started calling dibs at the restaurant community table. That is funny on so many levels. Seriously, how many different scenarios can you imagine where and when people save seats and call dibs? So many, How many times can I use the word, “hysterical?” Not enough.
Most importantly, how has this show not won an Emmy or Golden Globe? It’s long overdue. And that’s saying something for a show only in its third season. The levels Schmidt goes through to evade telling CeCe the truth. The position his lie puts Nick and Jess in. The realities of not being able to pay for your cab after an argument when you want to storm out. I applaud the writers for nailing the balance between the drama and comedy in this show each and every week and including the little moments that define the middle class. It’s not easy to include all of these components and execute it well every single time but they do and they sure make it look effortless. New Girl is on fire! This show rocks. This episode rocks. Tonight’s New Girl is a must see. Grab your date or your cat and watch tonight at 9/8c. You don’t want to miss it!
