If you enjoyed the YouTube Profile Series this past May, I’m happy to say that it’s back for the fall! This feature puts the spotlight on my favorite YouTubers who will answer 8 questions created from the word, YouTuber. This week’s spotlight is on Andrea from Books and Brew. Check it out below!
Your best year as a YouTuber?
I posted my first ever video at the beginning of this year…so I’d have to say 2013! Since I started vlogging in January, the journey has only gone uphill. It’s incredible how much can happen in just a few months!
One of the greatest lessons you’ve learned from other YouTubers?
Try new things! With YouTube, you have 100% control over what content you post. That brings both good and bad, but one of the best advantages this allows you is total freedom to do what you want with your channel. Using inspiration from fellow YouTubers, I’ve experimented with comedic skits, casual talk-to-the-camera vlogs, book reviews, and discussions on various subjects. Some things work, others don’t, but YouTube gives you the opportunity to be creative and try.
Underrated: What’s the one video you wish had more views or brought more of a discussion?
A few months ago, I made a video called “I Have No Inner Chef,” in which I embarked on a baking disaster at the suggestion of one of my lovely subscribers. Though I’m sure the video was painful to watch for anyone who can actually bake, I do wish my big mess and traumatic experience in the kitchen had brought in at least a few more views!
Time you doubted a video idea and shouldn’t have OR a time you doubted a video idea and are happy you didn’t do it.
I went back and forth for a while about my first writing video, “Unusual Writing Tips.” I didn’t know if my subscribers would enjoy a video all about that — were there even that many who were writers themselves? — or if the tips were “unusual” and original enough. Eventually, I decided that it was something I wanted to do anyway, and I’m so glad I did! It was one of the easiest videos for me to film because I was so happy and comfortable with the subject, and I received absolutely incredible feedback, in the form of views, comments, likes, and new subscribers.
Using one word, describe why How To Read Stephen King is the video you are most proud of.
Risky. Though this wasn’t my first video, this was the first chance I took, the first time I experimented with a video idea that I wasn’t sure about and opened myself up to possible criticism about that creative chance. It was scary, but once I made up my mind and posted it, I ended up with a lot of positive feedback and inspiration for future videos!
Be Yourself Tag: What are 3 books that taught you the most about yourself?
As a young girl, the Nancy Drew series taught me that I just might be too curious for my own good and that I can’t resist the temptation of a mystery to be solved. Pride and Prejudice taught me that I’m a total sucker for a beautiful love story. And Harry Potter taught me that I can both fangirl over and deeply appreciate a brilliant work of art — and trust me, I do plenty of both!
Expand: If you were expanding your brand which route would you go, TV (reality or talk show) or radio/podcast and why?
Though both have their ups and downs, I think I’d prefer TV. I connect very visually with things, so I often like to see the people I’m listening to. Because I have this mentality as a consumer, as a creator I’d also prefer to have that element of visual connection with my audience.
Road Show: If you went on tour for a live YouTube event, who would be your musical opening act?
Staying YouTube-themed — this is a live YouTube event, after all! — I would love for AVByte to perform. I adore their channel and I feel like they’d know how to put on a good show!
