TV Review: It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 9 Premiere “The Gang Broke Dee”

Dee starts to embrace the desperate, self-loathing qualities the guys have beaten into her over the years, sending her stand-up comedy career to unexpected places.

My favorite FX comedy is back! On the newly developed FXX! Check your local listings here. So, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia opened season nine just as strong as its previous eight premieres…Sunny shows zero signs of slowing down! I’ve said it before and will say it again, this show could go on forever and never run out of material. Why? People are always crazy. This lovely cast of characters are crazy. If you’re laughing at my use of the word “lovely” to describe these characters, so am I. If you’re new to this show, yep, it’s that kind of show. Sunny is as politically incorrect as it gets. And I love it.

In the season nine premiere, the gang has broken Dee down. SO far down that she agrees to having the guys support her career for once as they take her to do a stand up comedy act. Dennis has his own strategy to bring Dee back to life which was a sweet (you see what I did there?) effort and adorable as her brother, thinking he knew better than the others but ultimately he was just as useless. Ultimately, the joke was on him too. Seriously, where can I get one of those “Joke’s on Dee” t-shirts?

Just when you thought the gang couldn’t go any lower, they crush Dee so much, the laughs and disbelief will get caught in your throat. Yeah, this one lingers. When you find yourself asking, “How could they do that to her?” long after you’ve turned the TV off, just remember, this is only the beginning. Dee will get them back for sure and I can’t wait until she does! Round of applause to Kaitlin Olson. Where’s her Emmy? Long overdue. What a great start to the season! The acting, the writing, everything was on point. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to a new season of Sunny with the best comedic cast on television today! Looking forward to next week.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia airs Wednesdays at 10pm on FXX.
