Broadway Reminders & Updates

* The 27th Annual Broadway Flea Market is this Sunday! Ahh!!! My favorite! I’m so sad I won’t be going this year 🙁 If you do go, have a blast for me!

* Broadway on the Hudson, a free outdoor concert presented by United Airlines takes place in lower Manhattan next Friday, September 27th from 12:30pm to 2:00pm at Brookfield Place Waterfront Plaza, 220 Vesey Street. Participating Broadway shows (subject to change) include:

ANNIE, CHICAGO, FIRST DATE THE MUSICAL, NEWSIES, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, PIPPIN, RODGERS + HAMMERSTEIN’S CINDERELLA, ROCK OF AGES, SOUL DOCTOR, SPIDER-MAN TURN OFF THE DARK

I still can’t believe Spider-man is still on Broadway. Who is seeing that hot mess?! Ugh. I have no idea what Soul Doctor is and if you don’t either, this would be the time to find out! For more information on Broadway on the Hudson, visit: www.broadway.org.

* Tony Award winners Audra McDonald, Laura Benanti and Christian Borle have been added to the cast of the live December 5th production of NBC’s The Sound of Music. McDonald will play Mother Abbess, Benanti will play Elsa Schrader, and Borle will play Max Dettweiler. Yes! Something to look forward to. I love Carrie Underwood but I DO NOT see Maria from one of my favorite musicals ever when I look at her. So. The production has redeemed itself with actual theatre actors. Better have. It’s great to see Borle attached to this project too as it was so great seeing him in Legally Blonde when that show was still on Broadway. God, I miss that show! Anyway, the three-hour production will be based on the original 1959 Broadway production of “The Sound of Music,” which starred Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel. I know this won’t live up to my expectations (because they are so high, I can’t even see the end) so I’m just trying to figure out how excited I am at this point. What do you think?

* Disney’s Into the Woods kicked off production last week! Woot! The big-screen adaptation will include the following songs from the stage musical: “Children Will Listen,” “Giants in the Sky,” “On the Steps of the Palace,” “No One Is Alone” and “Agony,” among others. Sondheim has penned an all-new song for the film adaptation which I’m dying to hear. The film includes everyone from Joanna Riding and Christine Baranski to Anna Kendrick and Meryl Streep. You know I can’t talk about Broadway to movie adaptations and Meryl without reminding you all about August: Osage County releasing this Christmas! Ahh! I cannot wait! Okay, that’s all for now! Enjoy!
