Introducing a new feature on Hollywood the Write Way, “YouTube Profile Series!” Each week this month, I will put the spotlight on some of my favorite YouTubers who will answer 8 questions made from the word, YouTuber. First up, Alyssa from AC Reads. Check it out right below her latest video!
Your best year as a YouTuber?
My best year on YouTube was definitely 2012 – it was the year that I started! It was definitely a year of trial and error, figuring out what I liked to talk about and what would work best for my channel. I also began taking a bigger part in the community as well. I’ve formed some amazing friendships and absolutely love how welcoming and friendly the community is.
One of the greatest lessons you’ve learned from other YouTubers?
The greatest lesson that I’ve learned from YouTubers in general is to be yourself. If you spend your time making videos about content that doesn’t interest you, not only will the appeal of YouTube be lost to you, but your viewers will be able to see right through you. YouTube is amazing because people create content that they’re passionate about – and that’s what you should do too.
Underrated: What’s the one video you wish had more views or brought more of a discussion?
I’m pretty happy with the amount of views and discussion that my videos have received so far. If anything, I wish that book review videos in general received more views.
Time you doubted a video idea and shouldn’t have OR a time you doubted a video idea and are happy you didn’t do it.
I recently made a video response to Booksandbrew’s video “Liking Stuff That Isn’t ‘Cool” in which I basically listed a lot of the stuff (video games, movies, music, etc.) that I think are super fantastic but have been poked fun at for before. I’m a pretty self conscious person, and shy in general, and am not very comfortable talking about the things that I like that would cause people to look at me in a weird way. I’m so glad that I decided to make the response video – I received such wonderful feedback. I also loved the feeling that came after uploading the video – I was 100% myself and felt so good about it!
Using one word, describe why Anna and the French Kiss/Lola and the Boy Next Door is the video you are most proud of.
I am the most proud of my Anna and the French Kiss/Lola and the Boy Next Door review because… first!
Be Yourself Tag: What are 3 books that taught you the most about yourself?
The three books that taught me the most about myself are (in no particular order): Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine, Star Girl by Jerry Spinelli, and Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller.
Expand: If you were expanding your brand which route would you go, TV (reality or talk show) or radio/podcast and why?
I would LOVE to host a podcast! I think that it would be so much fun and hold so much potential for interaction within the BookTube community. I also think that the media format for podcasts would probably make the most sense as far as being an appropriate way to hold book discussions, author interviews, reviews, and even TAG videos. Ah, it would be SO much fun!
Road Show: If you went on tour for a live YouTube event, who would be your musical opening act?
I’m going to have to go ahead and say Dave Matthews Band… because they are my favorite band of all time and I would totally die of happiness. Death by fangirling? I think so.
Thank you so much Alyssa for participating in Hollywood the Write Way‘s, “YouTube Profile Series!” If you are a YouTuber and are interested in participating, I would love to extend this spotlight through the summer. You can email me at melodysimpson(at)hollywoodthewriteway(dot)com.
