Each weekend, I recommend a movie, documentary, and TV series that I found through Netflix or started watching because it was conveniently on Netflix and I had been meaning to get to that movie/documentary/TV show for some time. If you have any recommendations, feel free to leave a comment!
Sliding Doors
Two wholly different universes unfold in writer-director Peter Howitt’s romantic fantasy about alternate realities, the reliability of subway schedules and the role fate plays in shaping random lives.
National Geographic: Inside North Korea
Disguised as a medical coordinator, National Geographic correspondent Lisa Ling gains access into North Korea and gives viewers a powerful glimpse inside one of the most restrictive countries in the world. Through personal accounts and exclusive footage, Ling exposes the difficulties North Koreans face while living in such an oppressive regime, coping with poverty, hunger and the lack of civil liberties.
Persons Unknown
This murky television drama hangs on the premise that it’s possible for seven strangers to disappear without a trace and wake up in an unfamiliar hotel room, only to discover that they’re being held hostage by a hostile group of persons unknown. The captives include a de facto leader with a mysterious past (Jason Wiles), a single mother (Daisy Betts), a Marine (Chadwick Boseman) and a wealthy CEO (Alan Ruck).
This show had potential to be so much. It was canceled before it could answer every single question and take the show even further which is a shame because it’s a very good show. Also keep in mind that part of the show’s title has “unknown” in it so there’s going to be a lot left unanswered throughout each episode. It will be frustrating as you watch but if you are okay with that and its premature ending, give this a watch!
