This week’s challenge: Top Ten Books Dealing With Tough Subjects. I read more memoirs and autobiographies dealing with tough subjects than I do fiction, many of which are based on the same few subjects, mostly grounded in historical tragedies and movements, so I decided to stick with film like I did last week to have a slightly wider variety. Some of the movie selections below are based on books, some based on true stories, and some subjects I chose to leave out as they would lead to spoilers for anyone who has yet to see these films. I picked:

1. Gone Baby Gone – Missing Child
2. The Descendants – Grief
3. White Oleander – Foster Care
4. Rain Man – Autism
5. Riding in Cars With Boys – Teen Mom

6. Notes on a Scandal – Teacher-Student Affair
7. Letters to God – Cancer
8. Precious – Abuse, Teen Mom
9. Iron Jawed Angels – Women’s Suffrage Movement
10. Boys Don’t Cry – LGBT

What books or movies that touch on tough subjects hit you the hardest?
