Ever get disappointed when your favorite author’s tour dates are announced and your town is never on that list? Here is a big opportunity to get some of your favorite YA authors to your town for a free panel & signing! From January 1 to February 15, you will have the chance to vote for your hometown or city (Open in the continental US and major Canadian cities only) for these five award-winning and best-selling authors to head to. Whatever city or town gets the most votes will get a visit from all of the authors! Vote for your hometown, here. You can find out full information on the program on YA2U.
Here’s why the YA2U Team should come to MY hometown:
As someone who has moved more than a handful of times, I’ve grown accustomed to moving but it wasn’t always like that. When I was in high school, what kept me sane were the books and the people I found inside the Rancocas Valley Regional High School Media Center in Mt. Holly, NJ. Yes, Regional High School. Meaning this high school is home to five local towns. Talk about a win if RV wins this contest! The library was a haven for me as it was and still is for hundreds of students every year. The book club meeting before homeroom began was usually the highlight of my week. The knowledge that I was exposed to, the help that I received, the good conversations that I had that were so welcoming & non-judgmental, the books that I was introduced to helped me fall deeper in love with reading and the reading community.
One of the ways that I would love to show my appreciation to the librarians and everyone there is by bringing some of my absolute favorite YA authors and a debut author that I am sure will become a favorite to town. You see, RVRHS is in the middle. By that I mean it’s about 45 minutes away from Philadelphia and an hour and a half away from NYC. Let’s not even get into how frustrating the lack of indie bookstores in the area is. Often times there are events with YA authors at the B&N in Princeton but that is also quite a drive, especially for students who can’t drive yet. I remember missing out on so many author events because I was too young to drive and didn’t always have the resources to get there. Talk about disappointing. While most of my peers were bummed about not being allowed to go to a crazy party, I was bummed about not having anyone available to drive me to the book store. Bringing the authors to the teens who devour these books, that’s what I want to do. That’s what I want everyone in my hometown and county to help me do. So please spread the word and vote for Mt. Holly, NJ!
The authors are also hosting a “Spread the Word” Contest & you could win all ten of their books, signed & personalized! The best part? This contest is open internationally! Check out all of the different ways you can enter below!
