Fringe returns TONIGHT! The final season is here! What a fascinating ride it has been! I cannot wait to see how the show reaches its end, what questions will be answered and what questions we will have to answer ourselves. I cannot wait to see just how much of the future Peter, Olivia, and Walter are able to change. I am so thankful that the series made it this far because that in itself was a struggle. And I am pumped to see how it all concludes! The season premiere is a good one, so don’t miss it tonight!

The fifth and final season of Fringe picks up from the ominous events of last season’s “Letters of Transit” episode, in which the year is 2036 and the overpowering Observers rule. The Fringe team – preserved in amber for 20 years – is now a rebel resistance team fighting for freedom. Peter, reunited with his now adult daughter, Etta, sets out to find out what happened to his wife and Etta’s mom – Olivia – as they start their mission to save the world from the Observers.
We’re back in 2036 in “Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11” as Peter and the gang works to find Olivia in an Observer ruled world. With this being the final season of the show, pacing is more important than ever. Which is why I find it so funny what happens next. They find one member of the Fringe team… and then lose another. So they’re not exactly making any steps forward in their mission to rid the world of the Observer’s reign. In fact, it’s more like one step forward, two steps back when you take into the memory loss that one member of the team encounters. You thought they had problems in the resistance based on what we saw season? That was nothing.
“What on earth are amber gypsies?” – Walter
The best part? Spoilers ahead. We get to see Peter, Olivia, and their daughter, Etta in action together. Nothing like a little family bonding time than a covert mission. Etta doesn’t say much in the episode but her scenes are incredibly powerful. The touch of her hand on her mother’s amber, her tears when they come face to face… Georgina Haig is fantastic as Etta. The casting could not have been better! Back to their mission… saving Walter. Yes, because as I mentioned earlier, one step ahead, two steps back. Have a kleenex nearby if you are a big Walter fan and hate seeing anybody being tortured. (Great special effect with the eye, by the way. That’s all I’m saying.)
“I can’t do it. I can’t even recognize myself.” – Walter
Going along with the theme, the name of the game is DOUBT. Yep, unless the glyph has changed since my viewing, that’s what it is. You better believe the season premiere will have you hanging on every word and every moment of each and every character. But doubting much? Eh. I didn’t doubt much in this episode, other than what they want viewers to see as a completely renovated Columbus Circle. Then again, the doubt really kicks in at the end of the episode.
Seeing the leaps that each character takes, doubting if their plans will succeed, if they can afford to take such leaps, doubting whether or not they will see each other again, truly be together… those doubts are heavy. I’m talking to you Peter and Olivia. The conversation that these two have, wow. We are definitely brought up to speed on where these two have been and are at. It was shocking at first but completely makes sense when you think about. Ah, Peter and Olivia. C’mon writers, please let us have our happy ending. Please. If Walter can’t save the world, at least let these be happy, fulfilled together. That begs the question, is there a need to save yourself and your relationships if the future of the world (as it should be) is one big question mark? There is plenty to think about tonight, especially in the second half of the episode. Fringe never fails to deliver incredible season premieres so you do not want to miss this!
