TV Review: Covert Affairs “Half a World Away”

In tonight’s episode of Covert Affairs, viewers will finally find out how Auggie lost his sight… and also what he intends to do about the man behind his injury who is surprisingly still alive today. This episode goes back and forth between present day Turkey at the Istanbul Jazz Festival as well as Baltimore and 2007 Iraq. Rebecca Mader (Lost, No Ordinary Family) guest stars in tonight’s episode (and has great chemistry with Gorham) as a flight attendant who becomes more than acquaintances with Auggie and also ends up aiding him in his mission. This mission, like others is exhilarating but for reasons closer to home. We want to see Auggie at peace with his enemy but the way that he goes about getting that peace and how he reels Annie in, only to be frustrated that she helped (though, it is Annie, he must have known she was going to help more than he intended) is quite a sight to see.

Also, there’s clearly a lot of character development. It’s fun to see that Auggie was always a flirt. Some things never change. But I particularly found Auggie’s reasoning for his new found love for jazz especially moving. If you remember season one’s Auggie centric episode, that was more fast paced than what you’ll see tonight but the pace tonight is just right for what will be revealed and set out. Chris Gorham shines in tonight’s episode as does the writing and a beautiful new shooting location (since Covert Affairs has the opportunity to branch out more this season). “Half a World Away,” which is the perfect title for this episode in so many ways, is a must see episode and is perhaps one of the most hard hitting of the season – and the season isn’t over yet! So be sure to watch tonight!

Watch Covert Affairs Tuesdays at 10/9c on USA.
