Throughout history, the forces of evolution and genetic mutation have endowed humans with astonishing new abilities and features. It’s a process that continues to this day, and nowhere is it more evident than in the fascinating world of STAN LEE’S SUPERHUMANS.

Co-hosted by Stan Lee, the legendary creator of the X-Men, Spider-Man and the Hulk, the series scours the globe for the real-life counterparts of Lee’s characters – people with unique genetic traits that translate into remarkable powers. In each episode, these “superhumans” undergo tests that may help explain their amazing gifts, while viewers discover the long history of people with extraordinary powers. Daniel Browning Smith, who’s been dubbed the most flexible man in the world, hosts this thrilling journey into the farthest reaches of humankind.

In Super Humans Season One, Daniel Browning Smith (the most flexible man in the world) travels the world to discover real life super humans…because Stan Lee (Marvel’s Spider Man, Fantastic Four, Incredible Hulk, etc…) is on a mission to share that mutations are not just fiction. The individuals that Daniel comes across are incredible to say the least. Daniel travels everywhere from India to London to New York to Colorado, showcasing more than 30 super humans in 8 hour long episodes. Each segment has a general show introduction and a reminder or two after a commercial break as to what’s going on…but for an hour long episode, it seemed the general introduction with Lee and Smith did not need to be placed in front of every single segment. That time adds up and could have been spent showing more footage of the super humans…especially the eye candy that is the ultimate diver!

Anyway, along the way, lots of interesting fun facts are shared and lots of professionals are brought in to help explain what makes these individuals super human. Before each super human shows their gift, it is expressed greatly not to try anything of this nature at home. One man is run over by a truck! Needless to say, that warning is important. After a demonstration without any experts around, viewers will have their minds blown by these incredible human beings. Then, experts such as professors, doctors, para-medics, and paranormal investigators come to the sight of the big reveal. Sometimes, they’ll bring the subject to a facility to run more extensive tests and those are actually more exciting to see. There’s something about being able to see eaten glass in someone’s body via x-ray that really puts someone’s special ability into perspective. There’s only one individual in the entire series, in the final episode whose power is hard to confirm. He claims to be able to knock a person out without even touching them. The rest of the super humans are all proven to be super humans…and if you thought no one could trick nature…you are very much mistaken.

It’s really quite fascinating to be able to look beyond what is scientifically possible, see the strength these individuals have, and experience enhanced hand eye coordination for example through these people. While everyone may not be super human, it does inspire its viewers to be as extraordinary as they can be. Dean Karnazes in particular is the fastest runner in the world. He just finished his run across America, showcased on Regis & Kelly today and has inspired millions of people around the world to be as fit and healthy as they can be. The human calculator and the ultimate memory man also prove that man can beat the computer. These people’s talents are exciting to see but the true reward is realizing how incredible our own discipline and strength is and can be. For this reason especially, this DVD is worth owning and sharing with all of your family and friends.

Bonus Features:
Bonus Footage
(14:54 minutes) – One extra scene from the following segments are shown in the bonus features: Human Anvil, The Ultimate Diver, Modern Samurai, Splash, and The Human Calculator. There didn’t seem to be any new footage for The Human Calculator and Modern Samurai but I did find the preparation for the big Splash very interesting. There are an endless amount of ways and times to be fascinated with these individuals, so if you want to continue feeling the exhilaration for a few moments longer, tune into the bonus features.
